Interview to Job Offer?

Nurses General Nursing

Hey everyone! :) This is my first time actually posting on allnurses, but I have always used it as a support system while in school and while studying for the NCLEX.

Ok back to the question! I interviewed on Monday for my dream job, I am a new grad RN, with no nursing experience other than clinical (no prior work experience either, I just turned 21). The hosptial system is amazing I hope the interview went well; it honestly felt like a friendly conversation, my nerves left as soon as I met the recruiter, he was soo nice. The interview wasnt at the hosptial so I was unable to tour or meet the nurse manager, so the interview lasted about an hour. Towards the end of the interview he asked me if I would feel comfortable doing this, that, etc. We reviewed the salary that I would be making and did a run through of all the benefits. Before leaving he asked me for my references and said he would call them the next day. I gave my references a heads-up on the drive home and I got the word that the recruiter had called them hours after the interview. But its Friday and I still havent heard anything! I'm really starting to get nervous! The only thing that is keeping my hopes up is the fact that this recruiter is in charge of hiring/interviewing for 4-5 hospitals. Should I call Monday? Is it a bad thing I havent heard anything?

Any insight? I'm still so new to everything I would appreciate any feedback!

Thanks!!

Welcome to the site. I would wait until Monday afternoon to follow up. Good luck.

Send a "Thank You" e-mail or card to the recruiter today. Often it takes a couple of weeks (and sometimes longer) for the employer to respond after an interview. They may be discussing your file with the hiring manager at the hospital or they may just be busy filling some other vacancies/positions. All of the feedback you've had from the recruiter so far is very favorable, so just send your note and follow up with a call in another week if you still have not heard anything.

I'm also a new nurse with no previous experience other than clinical....Well I interviewed for a job on this past Monday..The nursing director said she would call me by Friday to let me know if i got the job...I waited until friday afternoon (today)...no call... so I called her and told her I was following up on our interview so I could decide which direction I wanted to go (as far as other job interviews that I already had)..Then she told me she wouldn't know anything until Monday.......BUT at 4pm she called and offered me the job!! So I think the fact that I told her I was keeping my options open and had interviews elsewhere may have sped the process up a bit. So i don't know if the extra call helped or what...I'm some times pretty inpatient..so that's why I called so soon..

Call Monday...just don't be pushy or act desperate/inpatient...

I sent an thank you email soon after my interview, and I also sent a written thank you note in the mail to let them know I was highly interested. Thank your for the advice California RN and BethaJ! Congratulations on the job offer BethaJ! That's exciting!

YW!! Good luck to you msmoore!! The thank you note and email were good ideas to! I don't think a lot of people take the time to do those little things..Keep us posted as to how it turns out..

This happened to me just recently. I had a hospital nurse job interview on a Wednesday where I met with the unit nurse manager, discussed salary, etc. She offered me the job contingent on negative drug screen, criminal background check coming up clean, and successful reference check. A couple of days later I called human resources to follow up and was told my drug screen and criminal background check were fine, they were just having trouble reaching my references.

Well, I gave my references a head's up to be expecting a call and to please put in a good word for me. The next week, all my references told me they had been called by the hospital yet I still heard nothing. So I was worried but finally received the call a couple of days later officially offering me the job, that everything had checked out well and my new boss gave me my orientation date.

So from interview to official job offer call (after checking drug test, my background, and references), it took 9 days. I was on pins and needles the whole time.

I hope this new job goes well because I am very unhappy in my current one. I'm so happy to be leaving it.
