wow! to the nurse that hung 7-8 wrong meds..that was just plain crazy..

Cape...I am one of the most positive optimistic people I know and have been through a lot of bad/good experiences..so it's not being negative its just the truth, Maybe all LTC facilities are not the same..but I experienced it and I see a lot of other people on here have to....I hate that I had to have a bad experience in my first job and it had to be a LTC facility...I would never go back unless I knew that the facility really cared about it's people "nurses" and maybe after a few years experience it might be different. Then I wouldn't have to worry soo much about these well seasoned nurses attacking me..I could "hold my own" as people say.

It's funny I didn't realize this until after the fact....maybe not all places are the same but after reading up on some posts here..The LTC problem for new nurses seems to be common..

I'm with Karma on this. Not to discourage you by any means....If you decide to stay and continue...be watchful for any red flags and follow your gut feeling. If anything odd, get outta there. I just had an experience with a Nursing & Rehab LTC facility..and I am also a new grad and first job..It didn't turn out so hot..

YES!!! I believe it is true!!!!!...I'm a newbie...got hired at a LTC Rehab facility...and got "let go" I found out all the nurses (who have been there for years) they were backstabbing me..like in seconds...To my face everything was gravy..but it was when i got pulled in the nurse managers office...I found all this out...I was shocked!! Yeah the load was big..But I thought I had a pretty good hold on things..and they made me think I did too..until the big "let go" Makes me never want to trust another nurse again..

YEP YEP...I feel you I just got "let go" from LTC & Rehab Facility...Because I opened my mouth too much...Same stuff was going on there...I realize now..as being the new one..I should have kept my mouth shut about a lot of stuff till I got "in there"..Even though it was wrong..."borrowing" and such..Everyone were snitches...and I got the boot for it..AMAZING!!

Geesh I am having one of those times..questioning my career choice and if I made the right decision or not...all because of a bad turn out with my first nursing job...It was in a LTC facility...they gave me a 4 day orientation...2 halls 40 residents...and because I wasn't up to speed with everything as they expected..they let me go..I thought I was doing fairly well being a new nurse. But I think it had to do with more than that though...But the thing was..everyone (other nurses) was going behind my back talking about me to the managers about all this stuff I was supposedly doing wrong and to my face these nurses didn't have anything bad to say or any type of feedback...I just didn't get it...anyhow this relates to your statement about "throwing you under a bus" That's how I really felt they did me here..I'm just hoping I can find some place where people actually do work together and are not always out to get someone.

I graduated in March 2010..Licensed in Aug 2010 just got my first nursing job...it didn't work out..sooo now I'm back to square one again....I'm probably gonna jump into any job I can get to make some cash..untill I come up with something else..Sucks Sucks sucks. I trying to be positive..but this whole nursing thing is not the nursing I thought it was way back when I started school.

YW!! Good luck to you msmoore!! The thank you note and email were good ideas to! I don't think a lot of people take the time to do those little things..Keep us posted as to how it turns out..

I'm also a new nurse with no previous experience other than clinical....Well I interviewed for a job on this past Monday..The nursing director said she would call me by Friday to let me know if i got the job...I waited until friday afternoon (today)...no call... so I called her and told her I was following up on our interview so I could decide which direction I wanted to go (as far as other job interviews that I already had)..Then she told me she wouldn't know anything until Monday.......BUT at 4pm she called and offered me the job!! So I think the fact that I told her I was keeping my options open and had interviews elsewhere may have sped the process up a bit. So i don't know if the extra call helped or what...I'm some times pretty inpatient..so that's why I called so soon.. Call Monday...just don't be pushy or act desperate/inpatient...
