Interview HELP!!

Published

Could any of you share questions that you were asked during interviews? I am trying to prepare myself for an interview on Tuesday and am quite nervous. Any other tips are welcomed as well!!

What brings you into nursing?

Why do you want to work for this hospital?

Do you have any questions?

Definitely have questions. Check out the hospital's annual report and/or the website and ask about something that interests you. If you are interviewed by the nurse manager, ask about his/her management style. Ask about the interaction between the staff both in and out of work. I didn't get any of the "scenario" questions that others have talked about getting, but it may be a good idea to plan for those too.

Wishing you the best of luck.:wink2:

Other questions:

Where do you see yourself in 5 years - career wise?

What was the most difficult patient you encountered and how did you handle him/her?

What is your greatest weakness and how do you manage it?

How do you handle conflict with co-workers? Management?

Good luck on your interview!~

:D

What do you all say when you're asked where you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself in grad school, hopefully, but I don't think that's a good answer in an interview (translates to: no longer working in your hospital).

Actually, I think your answer is very appropriate. Indicating that you would like to continue to improve on your knowledge and skills through the pursuit of a higher degree shows motivation. I was told during my interview of ways that the hospital would support me when I go for my MSN degree. Best of wishes to you!!

The suggestions that I was given through this thread as well as other threads really helped me out yesterday - thanks!! The interview went great and I was asked for a second interview tomorrow. I thought I would share what questions were asked to me.

1. Share a time where you felt that you went "above and beyond" the duties of a nurse.

2. Share a time when you made a mistake and the steps that you took to correct that mistake.

3. What made you choose to go back to school at this stage of your life and why did you choose nursing? (guess I should disclose that I am 39!)

4. What questions do you have for me?

Hi! Just had my first interview myself.. my boyfriend found these sites for me and they were really helpful:

Be confident and assertive, and make it clear to your interviewer that that hospital is your first choice (even if it really isn't :) ).. try to take cues from the interviewer (some people are laid back and others are more formal). Be direct and honest.. they have interviewed many people before you and can see right through b.s. Make sure to bring any letters of recommendation or that kind of thing with you, and make sure to follow up with a thank you email (get the interviewer's card before you leave!). Keep your answers detailed but not too lengthy. Good luck!!!

I was asked that question and I gave the response you wrote. I got the job. It does not necessarily mean you won't be working there, but rather, you'll be there in a different capacity.:D

I dont know about nursing niterviews but have conducted many many interviews in my previous career. One of the answers to my question "where do you see yourself in 5 years" stands out in my mind. This young gentleman looked me square in the eye and said "doing your job". I was impressed. His answer showed me that he had a plan and was committed to staying for awhile and moving up the chain. He got the job.
