Interview Help - I'm so nervous!

I have done search after search and out of like 20 pages of topics, only half a dozen were related to interviewing skills and it was very vague information. I was just trying to get other people's experience help from those who have BTDT. I'm so afraid of blanking tomorrow.

Well, I haven't interviewed as a nurse yet, but I have had my share of interviews in the past for some heavy positions. I think the tips would be the same:

* show the interviewer you're knowledgable about the facility. KNOW their mission statement, philosophy.

* show enthusiasm, be animated. Nothing worse than a stick sitting there, answering questions "yes" or "no" only. Smile!

*be prepared to answer questions such as "why do you want to work here?" and "what do you have to offer us that the other candidates might not?"

*be prepared to tell them not only how wonderful you are, but what mistakes you've made--and what you've LEARNED from them.

*show that you're looking past 'getting hired': ask them how the schedule is created, what the procedures are for assigning shifts.

Something to keep in your mind is that you need to present yourself as someone they want to have, not just someone they'll take. Make yourself more desirable than the next guy to walk into that office :)

Best way to combat nervousness is to be prepared. Following are questions I took from the book Interview Power by Tom Washington. Idea is to wirte out a brief answer to each question, so you'll have an answer - don't memorize, just the highlihgts so you can recall the answer. The second section are behavioral questions and each one requires a story to answer it - so once again have the story in mind so you can pull it up from the memory bank when you need it.
