Planning to join OMNI college in BC for RN-CLEBAN program- good OR bad?

Hello all

This is my first post here. I'm a RN in India, planning to be a RN in Canada. I'm 28 years old and have 6 years of work experience in India.

I came across reading about OMNI college in BC in Canada. They have a 13-18 month program for Internationally Educated Nurses. link

The intake is coming up in October 2017 and then in Feb 2018. The college claims to provide training to pass NCLEX RN and CELBAN in these 13 months.

My IELTS score is 6.5 overall with 7 in 2 parts. With work experience and this IELTS score admission for this program is possible.

What I have understood is, if I'm able to pass LPN in this time then I can get a job and transfer to work permit in Canada and thereafter clear NCLEX RN. Though stay back isn't available, college has said that study visa can be extended for 2 more years.

My questions are-

1. What is the opinion about this college? OMNI college, BC, Canada.

2. Is this a good option for me to be in Canada and become a RN in sometime?

3. Are there other colleges in Canada which provide RN preparatory programs and study visas?

4. How to bring in spouse before getting PR? Can spouse also work?

Kindly help me clear the air since I have very little knowledge about nursing and job in Canada.

LPN is not in demand as many LPNs are looking for work.

Where in Canada are you planning on living and working?

Finding employer willing to go work permit route is extremely hard at the moment as many more nurses are looking for work

If you come over as a student and the establishment is accepted then your spouse can get a work permit based on your study permit.

Why not just try straight for RN and then look at option for PR and the skilled route on the CIC website?

There is no guarantee that you would find an employer willing to offer a job to someone who requires work permit, the job market is in a surplus cycle, not a shortage cycle. Paying a private school to teach information that can be studied independently from home, is a waste of money, it's better to save money in order to immigrate to Canada.

Read your own last paragraph. You said LPN is not in demand yet Omni is telling you to get an LPN full time job.

Do you mean without going through Omni program? I think to write RN, one has to be there in Canada. Omni suggests to get LPN first because it is just a 1 year program. They claim LPN can be passed easily and work can be got if trying outside city. If going for RN first then there is less time for reappearance. If failed in RN then I have to return back wasting all the time and money.

But to write RN, I have to be there. Isn't? So I thought it would be better to get a 1 year visa and write RN in that time there. At the same time clearing LPN and getting a job somewhere could help me extend my visa period and gather experience too. That is the plan. Don't know how will it work though.

Omni says they can help out in finding jobs and EXTENDING VISA. My aim is get visa extended and get more time to clear off RN when being in Canada. They say students take 2 years to clear RN. They also said LPN job can be got far from city and later RN can be attempted.

I have not tried immigration route, as I have heard people waiting for 2 years after applying. Also what I understood is NCELX RN must be cleared after reaching Canada through immigration. So I felt this 1 year program would help me, better if visa could be extended. I wish to get into Canada and become RN in least possible time.

I am sorry but you are being told a lot of codswallop. LPN is not in demand so finding an employer willing to go this route will be extremely difficult. They have to prove they can not fill the job from within Canada, have to advertise all across Canada. Also costs over $1000.00 per advert and LMIA is what costs and makes employers reluctant. You can not offer to pay this as it is illegal. Employer must pay.

You do not have to be in Canada to go the RN route. Many start the process before they arrive in Canada as the process can be long.

But for immigration route one must have IELTS score of 7. After 7 attempts I'm not able to get 7 band score. Hence, this program came up as it has CELBAN training too. I cant write CELBAN from here.

I hope I'm able to present my situation to you...

It is getting late by trying IELTS several times. Attempted ACADEMIC IELTS 7 times. CELBAN is a ray of hope. So how do I get into Canada at the fastest possible and clear RN? Is there any other course or college which suits me?

Or is it better to try IELTS for 1 more year and then go CIC route? I'm not sure about the minimum score requirement for CIC. Most of provinces not mentioning exact score required in CIC website.
