Graduate April/05 & USA Bound

Hi All,

Trying to read as much as I can on re-locating to the USA, as I graduate with my BN, officially done school April 17, 2005! I want to specialize in Maternity as I LOVE this area, but few jobs in Canada in this particular field. I'm looking to relocate to a state with a top rated hospital that also has a great intern program. Besides having my Bachelor of Nursing, I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Women's Studies, and a university post-degree diploma in Information Technology (which I could have left to go work in the states with under NAFTA, but chose to pursue nursing instead, I'd rather work with people!). I have real estate to sell in Canada, and need to start making plans so that I can get the heck out of here and start working in this FANTASTIC area of nursing. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to get started with all this, and any pointers or heads up on that I need to watch out for?

CHeers, Thanks

Jo

Don't know much about the hospitals yet, I have just started doing some research myself. I found a great website www.findyourspot.com that helps you find cities that suit your lifestyle. Very interesting, check it out.

Good luck

Labour and Delivery are areas that are popular whatever country you are in especially in those top rated hospitals. Start looking now and good luck!

You are going to need a Visa Screen Certificate, which will take about 4 months to get after you have completed nursing school and your transcripts are finalized. Same as afor applying to a state for licensure. You are still considered a foreign graduate. Unfortunately, you will not be able to get anything processed for it until after you have your final transcripts completed. Every state has needs for L&D nurses, you just have to find the perfect match for yourself. I would recommend going the direct hire route and not with an agnecy if at all possible for you.

shortest time frame to get everything done as well as get the most money offered for yourself.

Good luck........................... :balloons:
