Hi Everyone!

I'd like to first say hi to everyone and introduce myself. My name is Vivian and I've recently graduated in Aug 06 from the accelerated nursing program at grant macewan in alberta. I failed my CRNE (first writing) in October. Therefore I only have the temporary permit and i will not be able to write again until June of 07 (i really think they should revise the schedule so that those that fail can write again sooner). Is it possible to write the NCLEX before I pass the CRNE?

And wow...the whole process to getting to write the NCLEX seems so complicated. Getting the CES done and writing the CGFNS? is that all mandatory? I checked out hte CGFNS website..and it all looks very costly.

Has anyone here gone through this process and can tell me your experiences? Thanks so much for reading and any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Vivian,

According to failing CRNE. How did you feel about CRNE? Will you try another chance? I just took it last week but I think I can't make it. sorry, I don't know about NCLEX.

The CRNE was tough. but it was my fault i failed. I had my baby premature and he was in the hospital up till the week of hte exam. So I didn't focus on any studying. But i will definitely try again. You'll make it!!! everyone always feels that they can't....it's just one of those exams where you walk out and will no matter what feel unsure. good luck!

Thank Vivian!

If I were you I would do the same (the baby first!). I heard that some states don't ask for CGFNS. I heard from this website, too. I am not sure about Oregon, etc. You may check this out

Hope it might help. :typing

I think that one has to be liscensed in the province where they are from prior to getting US liscense.. If you find a hospital the will sponsor you ..and they will help you do all the paperwork for the NCLEX and CGFNS..and some will pay the fees......

hey there,

i just did all this stuff last may so hopefully i'll b e able to answer some of your questions. yes you can write the nclex before you licensed or passed the crne in canada. all you have to do is chose what state you want (and i will say minnesota is really quick and you'll have your license with in a week - after you pass the nclex and they give you a hard copy of the license which most states wont do with out a ss#). once your state is chosen get the paper work from them that is needed which you can get on line. for me i needed my school to fill out the form regarding education what program i was in credits etc. the school sends this to the state bord. you also need your provincial bord to send in a form regarding your gn license. once they get it and everything is fine they will let you sit for the nclex (which you have to apply for and pay for) take the test and then wait to see if you passed the test. i was licensed in the states before i was up here in canada.

now for the cgfns i started that process at the same as i started the whole licensing thing. if your really interested don't wait just start it cause it takes soooooooooooooo long to complete it. when you go to your school with the paper work theres a form for the ces and you can get your school to fill that one out to. with cgfns don't wait for anything just start the process and gt the ball rolling. even if you don't have everything just start it cause eventually it will all fall into place.

i am glad i did it and now my visa screen is good for 5 years so i have it if i ever want to go down there and work again. hope this helped answer some of your questions. if you have any more questions i'm me.

Suggest that you focus on passing your Canadian exam first before going for the NCLEX-RN. It will make it harder for you to get a job as you need to list the attempt on all applications.

In order to work in the US, you must apply to a BON for licensure, you do not apply to take the NCLEX exam, but must have permission from the state to do so. Nothing is going to be immediate as far as approval to sit for that exam, and you will have plenty of time to rewrite the Canadian one, this is already Feburary.

bon is bord of nursing .. basically the state are you trying to get a license in.

You must apply and have your credentials approved by a BON to be able to sit for the NCLEX exam.

The issue that I see is it is much harder to get a placement with a hospital in the US if you took your local exam and did not pass it. It needs to be listed on your applications for licensure. And you will get asked that. The US does not require a local license, but if you took the exam, then you need to show a license for it.

Same thing that I tell anyone that is going thru the same thing in any country.
