Filipino nurses in adelaide

Hi, I am a Registered Nurse from the Philippines. My family will be immigrating in Adelaide first quarter of 2010. We applied under the Provisional Visa subclass 475. With this visa, we are given the opportunity to stay and work in Adelaide for two years, and hopefully be granted with permanent visa if we satisfy the requirements set by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. We are very excited and nervous as to what will happen to us once we are there. We have no relatives nor friends in Adelaide. Our concerns are our living accommodation and to look for a job. I am doing my research about Adelaide and got some useful ideas. I hope someone with a good heart will help us make our way in Adelaide. I visited the Nursing Board website of South Australia and downloaded the application form for Assessment of Internationally Educated Nurses. I will comply with the IELTS requirement and submit my application to the Nursing Board when we arrive in Adelaide. I understand that Filipino Nurses have to undergo a bridging course before granted a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in South Australia. I am praying that someone will guide me through this process. Can I also work as an assistant nurse?or practical nurse or caregiver in Adelaide for the meantime?what are the requirements for those jobs?Thank you so much for giving time to answer my concerns.God bless you all. God bless all the nurses:-)

still waiting for any reply.....:crying2::crying2::crying2:

Sorry for the no response hon. I guess no one knows much about it. I myself am an RN (not working as a nurse) in the philippines. I have a friend who is moving to work in Queensland around the same time that you are, I think. She has a sister there and she has around 2 years of experience as a staff nurses here in the Philippines. She tells me that she will undergo a bridging program as soon as she gets there. The program's duration depends on the type of experience you have and since she has a substantial amount, hers will not be that long. Its also a bit costly - as far as I know, I thinks its around 700K php - that's not validated.

In your case, I suggest that as soon as you get there, you contact the nursing council. I'm sure they will be able to recommend you too groups that can help you meet the bridging requirements. :)

Hi Careforpeople,

If you gave me a bit of background info about you I may be able to shed some light onto what you can do. Im in the process of getting my cousin over so they can study and then work before they get PR

Specializes in Medical surgical nursing.

It's the same thing here in NZ. You have to undergo a bridging course. Just make sure that you already passed the IELTS score requirement. Regarding the caregiver job, just browse the internet and you'll find it out. Usually, the application is online and will receive a reply if you can proceed for interview. Just make sure to let your prospect employer know that you are still in the Philippines but will be flying soon. Be upfront. Goodluck!

Hi, as far as accommodation goes try looking online at the Advertiser News paper. To give you a very rough idea, you will be looking at a minimum of $250 a week, and rising from this. You might want to start with shared accommodation which normally means that you get furniture in with the deal, say at 120-150 a week.

Good luck

Andrew :)

Hi,I have been a nurse in adelaide for 2 years before moving to Sydney in 2005.I am also trained in the Philippines but have also worked in Singapore for 6 years before that.You see I did not have to take any bridging course,I just had to pass the English qualifying exam.The Nurses board of South Australia accepts IELTS(Academic) or OET.I am not familiar with the type of visa you used but I utilized the Subclass 457 which is a temporary work visa valid for 4 years.It is an employer nomination scheme.You need in your case to have your qualifications assessed by the ANMC first if you have not done so already,you can look up their website and download forms.I am just not clear how you managed to obtain a work visa without a job offer or sponsorship .Are you in Adelaide yet?I might be posting irrelevant informations by now , if you still require further specific information,you might want to update your post.All the best .

Hi careforpeople, I am new here as well, as I've noticed, you've managed to get a provisional visa even before entering and registering with the South Australian Nursing board.:yeah: That's great but Can you tell me how you did that? :clown:Ditto, I have family members in Adelaide who wishes to help and sponsor me to work and live in Australia as a nurse but we are by far befundled.:uhoh3: As of the moment, I'm still stuck here in PI as am trying to finish my 1 year volunteer experience that they require/accept for you to enter the ARNTP bridging program (up to 28 week ata) or should worse come to worse, take the credit transfer for another BSN study [ may take up to 1year depending upon univ assesment] in the University of South Australia (as the ARNTP is undergoing reaccreditation as of the moment) and get a good IELTS result so that after finishing whichever course, I get to be registered with the board. Hope it only really takes an hour to do it... :p under this, I am under a student Visa that will expire about 2 months after the end of the course.:crying2:

Like Aj04, if luck is on my side, once registered, i wish to be employed and get a Temporary Business (Long Stay) - Standard Business Sponsorship (Subclass 457) visa. Once I have it, I will then apply for a GSM Visa. If this will not happen, I'll brokenheartedly go back to the Philippines... huhuhu :crying2:

@Aj04: Can you tell me how long they processed your papers for the 457? Did you apply for it onshore?

This is as far as my aim pathway goes. I don't know if it helped you in anyway but I do hope that it is a little helpful.

BTW, I am open for other pathways, are there any more available? Can you also please tell me some other options? My problem is that, I cannot shop around different Australian states because the house where I'll supposedly stay is in Adelaide.

Cheerio and hope to hear from you guys soon. :)
