International nursing student studying in Australia

Hello, everyone

I've been worried about choosing nursing school of Australia for a long time, BSN program (Pre-registration)

can anyone give me some tips? thanks a lot!:lol2:

Australian Catholic University (sydney)

University of Newcastle

University of South Australia

Flinders University

From my friend's suggestion: the city is the most important, like Sydney,Melbourne, you can find job easily after graduted.

As international student, which school is better? Is there anything we should pay particular attention in choosing schools or cities?

Thank you !

There is a shortage of nurses all over Australia. I don't think it matters which part of Australia you study, just as long as you can get a nursing licence/registration which can be transferred from one state of Australia to another and the process takes about 10 days within Aust( including NZ - not sure how long it would take though).

Being an International student, your worry would be the international fees and living cost. I know of an institution which offer 12 months Enrolled Nursing course (equivalent to 1st year nursing and you can then apply to start 2nd yr of a Bachelor of Nursing Science Degree at a number of Universities) and you can get an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse (EEN) licence/registration. With an EEN registration you can work in a hospital or aged care environment while you complete your bachelor degree. For immigration purposes, you need to be RN.

Hello, I happened to come across this post, do you know which institute that offers 12 months Enrolled Nursing course ? Does it accredited ?

Thanks a bunches

Hi

The one that I know of in Brisbane is Shafston College (12 mths) and their programme is recognised by Qld Nursing Council therefore upon passing all the required modules and exams, you can apply for Endorsed Enrolled Nurse registration. This programme is also recognised by most ( if not all) universities in Qld and upon completion, will be eligible for 2nd year bachelor programme in nursing providing there are places available. Check out their website www.shafston.edu under Diploma in Nursing. You may need to email them for more information. Feel free to PM if you have more questions.

Are you a nurse in your own country already? Because you can be recognised for some things and do a shortened programme. Not sure if all unis run it. Charles Darwin University in Darwin do run it...

Thank you dar15 :)

I'm not a nurse. But I am always amazed by my mom's friend, who is a nurse in australia :) She is so much happy and proud with her career

I have already had my degree in computer science... and doing some coding/IT support work in my home country.. It's not really my favourite and (yeah , i know) it's totally unrelated to nursing. I've been thinking of switching a career path...

I volunteered to be a patient care assistant in a hospital before. I am interested in getting a BSN in australia... well, tuition can be very costly for international students:( .. so i'm looking into Shafston College, or other univs that have cheaper tuition

Anyway, I appreciate your information.

Thank you! Have a nice day :)

Oooops! There was a piece in the Courier Mail the other day about Shafston and it seems that the curriculum is under review by the Queensland Nursing Council - this could be a routine review but at the moment it is a bit up in the air
