Hello everybody,
I am a graduated midwife from Morocco, I just came to Virginia state. I brought all my transcripts and my diploma. I evaluated my transcripts and their answer was that it is equivalent to an associate degree in midwifery. my problem is that here in Virginia they don't have midwives, they have either nurse-midwife or nurse. midwives exists only in new York and some other states.
I would like you to advise me to do something so I can make a step forward. and let me know if I have to start from the beginning or what exactly. thanks for your help.

Are you sure they said an associate degree MIDWIFE, and not an associate degree NURSE? There is no such thing as an associate degree midwife in the US. Midwives are nurses with a minimum of a master's degree and have privileges to write prescriptions.

Moved to nurse registration in world nursing section. Non-nurse midwives are not recognized in most US states. I know NY is one of the few. Most work in a birthing center rather than hospital environment.

You are correct. Certified Midwifes (CM) are in states like New York or New Jersey. Also, Certified Nurse Midwifes (CNM) would require you to be a nurse and to obtain a Master's.
However, Virginia recognizes Certified Professional Midwifes (CPM). This is what you need to research.
I don't have much more information, but I hope that helps to lead you in the right direction!

If Virginia recognizes CPMs, you can go to the NARM website for more information.
CPMs are generally utilized for homebirths. They do not have hospital privileges anywhere that I'm aware of, nor do they have prescriptive authority.

I would not wait for a response as this member has not been to all nurses in over 18 months. Is your sister a nurse midwife? Will she have work rights?
