International Graduate Requirements for NCLEX-RN

Published

I've been reading in and out of threads and have noticed that most are very outdated. I started a new thread hoping to help other Fil-Am international BSN graduates like me in the NCLEX-RN process who are doing everything on their own without help from any agency.

April 2018 -- I graduated in the Philippines. I quickly learned that the state I was planning to take the NCLEX with did not require me to be an RN in the Philippines because I am a citizen of the United States (It's different for every state.) Therefore, as soon as I graduated, I signed up for CGFNS without taking the Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination. After signing up for CGFNS, registering and paying for CES, the list of requirements will be given. In my case, it was official transcripts from both my university and high school.

June 2018 -- Only when CGFNS receives all of the requirements is when they will start "processing" your papers. In my case, I moved back to my hometown in the United States at the end of May so they only began my process mid-June 2018. Might I say that this was the longest waiting game possible! I was told that it would take 8-10 weeks, however, CFGNS took 11 weeks from the date they "received" everything needed. If I knew then that it would take as long as it did, I would have expedited everything for whatever fee they charge. MY ADVICE: pay the fee and expedite your service. You will save yourself from the anxiety and stress from waiting for so long.

September 2018 -- CGFNS submitted my report to the board of nursing mid-September 2018. After CGFNS finished my CES and sent it to the board of nursing in which I wish to take the NCLEX for, that's when I signed up and applied with the board. Even though I was born and raised in the United States and English is my first language, the state I am planning to take the NCLEX for still required me to take TOEFL because English is not the first language in the school which I graduated from.

November 2018 -- Took TOEFL, submitted my results and all is good to go. This took a total of 7 months from the time I graduated. Remember, everyone's time-frame is different and will depend on how quickly one can submit their requirements and papers and/or whether or not they will expedite their service with CGFNS. I am not taking the NCLEX just yet because I plan to attend a review course in the next couple of months since I've been out of school for 7 months now.

I hope this helps anyone who is already US citizens like me and graduated internationally; as well as those who are from another country and wish to take the NCLEX-RN.

Happy studying!

So any updates. Which agency are you working with?

May I know what State is it? Thank you!

I would only assume that this is not in CA, cause CGFNS is not a requirement for CA BRN.
