Intermediate Cardiac Care unit?

Hello,

I got a job offer for an intermediate cardiac care unit. This hospital already has a PCU. Is this unit considered a step below ICU and above PCU?  I’m asking because I want to treat a critical patient population. Here is what the description reads:

Our Intermediate Cardiac Care (ICC) is a fast paced unit with a focus on cardiovascular and respiratory conditions.  The patient population includes Observation patients in for ACS and ischemic workups, NSTEMI and stable STEMI (after Cath lab), pre and post Cath patients to include pulling arterial sheaths on the unit, dysrhythmia management including titrating IV drips, CHF (designated HF unit),vascular surgery, DKA/insulin drips and various other intermediate level of care diagnoses.  If you are interested in a great team environment, a fast pace and a place to learn and grow, ICC welcomes you.

I have the same question. The hospital is in NH. Is Cardiac Intermediate care unit... a critical care unit or just simply a med surg unit?

I worked in intermediate care at a level 1 trauma center and it was a step in between med surg and ICU. We did all drips, except for pressors. We took vented patients if they had a tracheostomy. The patients on the floor were pretty sick. I hope this helps!

ICC qualifies as a critical care unit so if that's your goal, go for it!
