Interested in Australia

Published

Hey Everyone. I have a couple questions i'm hoping someone can help me with! I'm looking to move to Australia in early 2007 on a 1 year work visa. I'm starting to work with a recruiter but still have questoins. My MAIN decision that has yet to be made is where to live. I can't decide between Perth and Sydney. My main purpose of going to Australia is to meet people, see new things and actually EXPERIENCE australia! any suggestions? Also, I've heard of a lot of international people going to Australia so i'm wondering if its easy to meet people there. And lastly, if I work full-time (which i've been told is 5 8hour shifts/week) will that ever give me any time to SEE anything in Australia! Thanks for any help!

Melbourne and Sydney have a great rivalry. If you're from Melbourne you think it's much better, and vice versa! Sydney is a more beautiful city - flashy, expensive, gorgeous. Melbourne is the plain younger sister, but is cheaper to live, and lots of live music, great restaurants, plenty to see and do.

Basically, either is good, but it's only an hour's flight, so whichever you choose doesn't really matter, it just depends on your interests and personal preferences.

Good luck, let us know what you choose.

Bridging for Overseas Trained Professionals is being offered in Queensland if you are trained overseas but you have to check the details with the Queensland Nursing Council.

Am from Kenya and still waiting QNC Decision. Is there anyone who has experienced a bridging program? I have gone through the queensland website but I don't understand most of it. And they now say you cannot email enquiries because they are too busy to reply

If I were you I would apply in other state, this is if you want to get your registration before you retire :roll . I think ACT runs the bridging programm for oversease nurses free. Once you are registred in a state you can transfer and work somewhere else.

I am also looking into coming to Australia after I graduate (about a year or so after graduation). I would be bringing my family. I was curious about Australia's school systems and more imprtantly about general attitudes concerning special needs education. Also, I read something on a recruiter's site about Tazmania. Can anybody tell me about it because the website really played it up and it really piqued my interest.

Thanks!

:welcome: It is disappointing that you have decided that Perth is off now as it is a beautiful friendly place to work. There is plenty of variety and although it is a long flight to the other side of Australia there is plenty to do and see in Western Australia itself. I agree with others that a good way to see Aussie is to take the short contract work on offer to see and experience a variety of places. I am currently working in New Zealand but began my nursing career in Perth.

Any nurses from WA? I'm relocating there if no problems with license and DIMA will occur. Any advices about cheaper rent near Perth/Fremantle? Still curious about differences between nursing in Australia and other countries, esp. USA

Thanks!
