Interested in attending Gateway CC

Published

Hi there! I am hoping to gain a little insight here as I navigate my way towards a career change!

I currently work in a different field and have a B.S. degree as well as a Master's in Education. I am ready to leave the field of education and nursing has always been in the back of my mind as a "someday" career. Well someday has come I feel and I need to make it happen.

I just picked up a packet last week from Gateway CC for their LPN program. Since I am not a CNA I have to take a CNA course this summer to fulfill that requirement. I graduated with a B.S. degree in 2006 and thus took many of the prereqs for the RN program... does anyone know if they will accept those? For example I have taken BIO 201, Stats, College Algebra and Psych. I had high school Chemistry but don't have those transcripts to prove that... so I figure I will need to take CHM online from Rio Salado to meet that requirement. With CHM I would have the prereqs for the LPN program, then would need to take BIO 201, and Microbiology as well for the RN. I had read somewhere months ago that some programs might consider my sciences courses "too old" even though they were completed within the past 10 years and I earned a bachelors of science degree. This is a little concerning for me as I already spent that time and money completing those courses, so to take them again... yikes.

My GOAL: Get accepted to the evening LPN program at Gateway CC, apply as advanced placement to their evening RN program and possibly do the concurrent BSN with ASU while in the RN program. I have some flexibility with my current job so I would be able to attend all classes in the evenings and clinicals.

Any advice, or similar experiences? Thanks in advance!!

I have been attending Gateway for the last 2 years for pre-reqs and just got placed for the Concurrent BSN Nursing program through Gateway/NAU. I think Gateway is a great choice and I would recommend it. Have you talked to an advisor up at the school yet? I would find out what classes transfer over so you know what you need to still take. Let me know if I can help. Gateway has lots of different pathways to furthering your education to becoming a Nurse.
