a friend of mine is a graphic designer and was asked to make some logos for this persons website. she sent it to me because she thought it was strange and probably illegal.. i was shocked!
apparently this person is convincing non diabetics to inject insulin in an effort to prevent diabetes and stop the effects of aging.. i may only be a student but I am pretty certain injecting insulin when its not needed can be lethal.
not to mention this whack blood glucose scale they are using:
> 200 mg/dlSUICIDAL
180 mg/dlDEATHLY
160 mg/dlHORRIBLE
140 mg/dlTERRIBLE
120 mg/dlBAD
110 mg/dlVERY HIGH
100 mg/dlHIGH
70 to 85 mg/dlOPTIMAL
55 to 69 mg/dlLOW
also i have no idea how they linked it to aging..
anyway i was really disturbed when i saw this and though i would post it and see what people's opinions were on here.. this person is NOT a doctor and is giving dangerous medical advice.. i havent read the entire page in detail, but it seems like they are encouraging people to buy insulin from mexico or something?!
there is an address at the bottom of the page, is there a way to report someone like this? its just very bizarre to me.
heres the page: http://www.rajeun.net/usinginsulin.html
btw, the graphic they wanted for he page was a wizard holding a syringe and a vial of insulin..

That is crazy! ...and yes, dangerous. I'm not even sure who you would report that to, though...?

Ah, Nicholas Flamel and his Philosopher's Stone! Sure, insulin can prevent us all from aging; we'll be dead, so we can't age any more, can we?
About 8 years ago, my MIL went for a hemicolectomy. At the time, she was a diet-controlled type 2 diabetic. The DR put her on a sliding scale post-op and gave her insulin intra-op. Since then she can no longer control her blood sugar by dietary means. Coincidence? Who knows?

There are all kinds of snake-oil salesmen pitching anti-aging cures. If they are actually selling insulin and syringes, your state attorney would probably be interested.

A non-diabetic is supposed to have a somewhat elevated bg after meals. But they have natural insulin in their bodies to deal with it. That's the big difference between diabetics and non-diabetics:D It doesn't take a whole lot of insulin for a non-diabetic to have horrific consequences (like permanent brain damage from hypoglycemia). Non-diabetics aren't used to lower blood sugars...many diabetics can tolerate a fairly low blood sugar without permanent damage (different for each). I can go into the 30s and be fully aware of what's going on (I don't feel well, and am very jittery, but I can do enough to get a source of sugar). Others start to fade in the 50s.
It's incredibly dangerous to do this. The FDA would have a field day with this off-label use And, anybody without an MD is practicing medicine without a license- big crime I wouldn't have anything to so with the website design- since you're a student and have some medical knowledge....save yourself :)
I sent the web address to the FDA

The FDA might try to shut down the website, but that's about it. Apparently from the fine print at the bottom, this guy is in Mexico City.

The FTC and DEA are also possibilities.....
It's still practicing medicine without a license and illegal.... I'll look into other places to report the website. This could kill people :) Knowingly doing something that can result in harm/death is criminal :)
OK.... FTC and DEA also notified.... this is one of those things that may be totally blown off... But knowing the risk, at least I know I did what I could ....
