Inservice ideas needed

Published

Hi all, I'm a longtime LPN in an office new to me. I've tackled the transition to an all computer format(yikes) and am now working on educating the MA staff a bit. My first inservice will be on the patient passing out during venipuncture (anyone want to guess what precipitated that?) I'd love to do one a month, but everything I am finding online leans more toward CNA's in facility settings. Any ideas? THANK YOU! :shy:

You can use the same things. Post an idea pad on the wall to let them write ideas. Still look at what they seem to have trouble with or what the doctor's say. When approaching summer or winter have inservice for the upcoming disease of the season.

I like this 'Needs Assessment' approach. But just a hint - don't address it as "What do YOU think needs ...." Rather address it as "What do you think your COWORKERS might need..." (Something along this line of thinking.) Not as intimidating to staff and allows for some comfort.

I agree do things that are relevant to the season. Also common sense things so they can become routine: what to do in a weather emergency, dealing with a dangerous patient, what to do in a medical emergency, etc. I think it's great you want to do these, just make sure they are important/ relevant to your staff..

You can also stick to the topics that are mandated in facilities. Consider things on fire & safety, infection control, pt rights, etc. I know there's nothing fancy about what to do in case of fire, but refresher info is hepful.
