Inquiring about RUE education

Ohhh where do I start about RUE. I'll keep it simple: do not use them.

Yep, they "guarantee" the exams. You must fail it 3 times and then they will refund your money. You won't fail it 3 times unless you are a complete idiot, and I'm sure you aren't. :) The tests are taken at Sylvan (Prometric) no matter who you use for your study materials (RUE, Chancellor's, EC, etc.) RUE is not the college. They have nothing to do with the college. They just make study materials for the tests that the college gives. How do they know what to include in the study materials? I'll tell you..... they send their staff to go and take the tests, and they come back and write down as much as they can remember. That's how they know. How do I know this? A RUE employee told me this. I heard it with my own ears.

You can save a TON of money if you go straight through EC. Their study guides are free (they'll mail them to you or you can download them on their website) and you can buy a couple of used texts (I had good luck with half.com). That's all you'll need. I was a fool and went with RUE, only to use the free EC guides in the end. I was much happier with them.

There have been a lot of posts on this board from people who have used RUE and their thoughts on them. Do a search and you will find more information than you ever wanted to know.

Those RUE staff people are smooth. Don't let them talk you into anything you don't want to do.

I have been thinking about finishing my BSN through RUE ED does anyone out there have any comments on this company or has anyone gone through them for their degrees? They use Excelsior payment is interest free and they guarantee passing the exams or your money back. They send you the workbooks to pass the tests and the tests are taken at a Sylvan Learning Center.

Very good review of Rue!! Not that I would know firsthand, I never used them, I only used Excelsior study guides and finished with a 3.4 GPA and I am no brainiac!!

I cringe when people start talking about using outside sources. But in their defense, when I was taking the Excelsior workshop there were people who said that Rue was "Right on" when it came time to test. I just think that if you are a current acute care LPN/LVN or paramedic, you do not need these expensive study guides. It would cost you less to take the exam again if you failed the first time.

I got a "C" on only 2 of the exams but these two exams I never studied for, just walked in and took the exam. The others I studied for and got an "A" or "B". One of the "C" grades I received was the one on OB/GYN labor and delivery nursing which I never worked in after LPN school and still passed. Even in LPN school I got a "C" in that subject so I urge people not to use those expensive outside sources because I got through it without an outside source and I was not an "A" student to begin with.

I agree with all of the above- don't waste your money on a publishing company if you have acute care experience.

This is basically how I got into allnurses dot com to begin with, I was looking for info about Excelsior and about a study guide company that I will not mention here..... Apparently Rue suggests that they are a school and they help you get into and succeed with Excelsior. They are offering you something they really cannot deliver: only you can get into Excelsior, and only you will succeed with Excelsior. They would just lke you to pay them to go along for your ride.

I bought another system (new, because I don't like other people's writing in my books....), and it helped me BUT ONLY FROM THE STAND POINT OF REASSURANCE.

I got more and better info from the note files on the yahoo groups, from looking at the outlines free from Excelsior, and then googling the stuff I didn't know. I understand some people actually read the books and assignments. Excelsior couldn't make it any easier if they figured out a way to funnel it into your head while you sleep! You don't need anybody else.

What worked best for me was free. (I don't regret buying the system I did, but did I need it? No. Did I use it? After the first test, No.)

As they say, you do the math..... :)
