Hi everyone, I am a newgrad :bugeyes:who's got a job interview at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx this week. I don't know much about the hospital neither the area where it is located because I am not from the area. I did a google search and nothing came out. Is it a safe area? I live in New jersey but I am relocating to NYC. I really appreciate any type of info. Thak you all!
Well let me say this, I did two clinicals there and I was really tired of the place by the end of the second clinical, the hospital is depressing, small rooms and on the med-surg floors THERE WERE NO SINKS, literally only in patient bathrooms, none for staff in the rooms, or hallway, weirdest thing I have ever seen, the nurses seemed pretty unhappy, I never went into ICU so have no idea how that is, but I think you could tolerate it for 13 weeks, that is about how long our clinical assignments are and I made it through 26 weeks. That being said you will probably see everything there, I really learn alot in my time there. Go for it,
I grew up near this hospital and for as long as I lived in the Bronx, Lincoln had a very notorious reputation. My grandmother (God rest her soul) was literally terrified of that place and refused to be taken there by EMS one night even though she was in grave discomfort with pulmonary edema due to CHF .. we convinced the medics to take her to a further yet better St. Barnabas Hospital. Lincoln is a very scary place for people who aren't from the area, even so for people who ARE from the area. We used to call it the Roach Motel (you check in but you don't check out). I'm curious to know what ever happened with the OP as well and what her experience was like if she did go through with it. It is a shame that Lincoln is allowed to exist in a neighborhood that really needs a good hospital, I am shocked that it's still around!
I just had to revive this thread - because since the time that I wrote my last post in 2009 I have heard that Lincoln has improved tremendously. My best friend's dad (God rest his soul, passed away last Nov) was a patient here in mid-2010 and my friend says it's not the same Lincoln we knew as kids. We went to high school near Lincoln during the mid-80s and while in school we would be terrified of getting sick there for fear that we would have to be hospitalized. In fact, a mutual friend of ours got hurt during soccer practice and was rushed to Lincoln. We sat holding a vigil in the ER waiting room, we were convinced he was a goner (He ended up being OK, but I lol about that now )
I digress ... any new feedback about the hospital these days from anyone who currently works there or has occasion to pass by? Dare I say this as I would not have said this years ago: I would be interested to work @ Lincoln once I become a nurse ... (it would be quite nostalgic!) Besides, it would be nice to return to the 'hood. :) Give back to the community, you know?
