I have never worked on an inpatient rehab unit before. Is this similar to a med/surg floor? Is this a recommended prn position?

I was offered a job doing that and a friend, who had been on the same unit said RUN! I worked ortho inpatient and that was great.
My first nursing job was in acute rehabilitation. Everything from TBIs, strokes, to MVAs. I learned so much, it was a lot like Med-surg but with a rehab component. So you were giving blood, IV meds, but also FIM scoring them and developing bowel and bladder programs. However- the nurse to patient ratio was too much. Many days I had 9 patients. And these people were sick. I threw in the towel after a year. Rehab nursing is hard work.

If it is in a large hospital, especially a county hospital you will see trauma/ wounds, burns, diabetes, cardiopathy, traumatic brain injuries, everything. It is med surg but pain meds round the clock for everyone in addition to what they already get. In addition, you have to coordinate with occupational/physical/ speech therapists, social workers, and providers from different specialties. These people are usually all fall precaution and need assistance toileting, wiping, showering. It’s a heavy floor, and you will learn a lot.
