I was recently laid off (about a week ago) from a great job, a job that paid well and allowed me to work at home. I've talked about being a nurse for quiet sometime.
My question is has anyone completed the LVN program at Mt. San Jacinto College? How long is the wait to get into the program? I know it says they don't maintain a waitlist and you have to apply each semester, just want to see how long it usually takes.
I figure I could become an LVN and eventually an RN. I noticed that that Riverside County Regional Medical Center has an LVN-RN 20/20 program at RCC. Has anyone done this?
Basically I need to decide once and for all what I'm going to do. If I'm going to do this now is the time, but I don't have tons of time. I have three little girls to feed and just want to make sure I can take care of them and I want to be happy. I've always wanted to be a teacher, I've wanted to help kids since kindergarten. Teaching degree will take too long and I thought nursing might be the right fit.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

I dont know about the Regional Medical Center, but I remember workinf with an LVN in a nursing home who was enrolled in LVN to RN program at RCC. The program was great and it only took an extra 2 semesters to complete the program.

I don't know what part of the IE you live in, but I know Beaumont Adult School has it's next LVN group starting in march or so?
Adult schools are a lot cheaper than trade schools. I payed 17 grand for what could have cost me 3000.
Good luck!
MSJC would take a while, the prereqs are a semester or two, then the program is 3 semesters, a trade school would take less time and you can still do LVN to RN (I'm doing it at CSUSB right now).

hi I attend MSJC and was originally going to apply to the LVN program but recently was accepted into the RN.
The pre reqs for lvn are few.
only nursing 100 (basic ap course)
english I believe is 98
dosage calc (short term very easy course)
basicly you need to get an A in all the above classes, I have several friends that applied this semester one with a 3.98 (A- from another school) she did not make it in due to the minus. You can easily take all 3 of the pre reqs in one semester, then apply, however you would have to wait one semester before applying. At MSJC, you have to have all pre reqs on your transcript before you apply. So if you took these classes in January, you wouldn't be able to apply to the lvn until fall for the spring 09 start, then the program is 3 semester long. (this is why I decided to go straight for RN which was my ultimate goal anyway). I don't know anything about any of the other programs or what your job choices in our area. Good luck! If you decide to go to MSJC, pm I will recomend some good teachers for the pre reqs.

You can also try the LVN program at Baldy View. Just google Baldy View ROP. They require you to pass the TABE test. I think their program run about 16 months. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!
