Hi All nurses,

I am in a dilema, I really don't know what to do right now. I really want to pursue a career where I can help babies. Can anyone suggest any?

Does anyone know the scope for a Certified MIdewifery

It would greatly be appreciated.

Thank You

Check out our NICU (Neonatal) Forum. The Neonatal ICU is where sick babies go after birth. Some are a little bit sick, while some are critical. It's a great place to work if you like babies.

A career as a midwife would undoubtedly be rewarding, as you would be dealing with pregnant women and delivering babies, but if you like nursing and you like infant care, you might check out a career as a neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP).

In any case, becoming an advanced practice nurse (such as a nurse practitioner or nurse midwife) usually requires several years of nursing experience first.

hi Eric,

Thank you so much for the information and I will check it out. Once I apply to nursing and cover all the requirements, then i can specialize in neonatal or is there a special program for that?

once again thank you. The response was greatly appreciated.

Specializes in ICU.

You could always become an RN, try to work in NICU or something along those lines to gain experience, and then apply to a certified nurse midwife school. OR go on to become a NP and maybe specialize?

I know that Florida has a nurse midwife school, but I am not sure where you're from:)

you could just see what their courses look like, etc. to get an idea anyway.

In US nursing schools, you get a general nursing degree. That way you don't have to decide on a specialty until you go to apply for your first job. Some hospitals don't hire new graduates into critical care settings like the NICU, but many do. Some hospitals offer training for new graduates in the form of a nursing internship.
