Information about International nursing license

I am looking for information about the International Nursing License. Is there a Board for International Nursing? Is there a separate test from the NCLEX? I am a new grad and curious about what an International Nursing License permits one to do? I am having trouble finding information about it on the Internet that is not an advertisement or a job search engine. Thanks in advance for any information regarding International Nursing Licensure.

What do you mean by International nursing license?

As far as you will find out each country will have their own requirements and even if you meet requirements will not guarantee you a job and a work permit for that country

I've never heard of such a thing. Since you ask about the NCLEX, are you perhaps asking about nurses educated in other countries getting licensed in the US? These individuals are sometimes referred to as "international nurses" -- but they go through the same process (with some additional paperwork and requirements), and get the same license, as US-educated nurses. There's no separate, different license for individuals educated in other countries.

If you could be more specific about what you're asking, maybe someone could give you a better answer.

Best wishes! :)

Hello Silverdragon102,

I am going to graduate from one of the universities in US by May 2011.I am here in USA with H4 visa status.I have my SS # here. In order to get state licence I have to write NCLEX( board exam),Do you think will I have any problem to register for NCLEX? Is the university, where Iam studying, register for me for the board Exam?Do I have to produce any immigration documents for the registration?

If I pass the NCLEX,can I become registered nurse in the stae?Do I have to undergo CGFNS $ TOFEL for immigration visa or H1B?

Your reply is greatly appreciated

Thanks for your time

It all depends on which state you're applying to. Each state has different requirements so you must find that state BON website and research on what you need to obtain licensure. If you have any questions you should really ask them directly via email (or telephone & it may be a long wait). Since you stated before that you have a ss# you may be able to apply for licensure, and obtain a license, but your ss# might not allow you to work in the US depending on which visa you're on. Good Luck

Thank you Nurse Cubinita for your response:)

I've been wondering the same thing as Periodical. I am an LPN and my passion is to help the poor in 3rd world countries. Everyone says I should just go and get my RN, but I'm not sure getting an RN license would help me to be more internationally accepted. I've spent some time in Kenya, and from what I can tell, even RNs have to do extra classes and stuff in Kenya to be licensed to practice there. I don't think this is uncommon around the world. My question is, is there any internationally recognized nursing education program (maybe run by the UN or WHO) that would be universally respected? Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks!!

I doubt anything is run by WHO or some other organization.

LPN would not be recognised internationally. There is no "International Nursing License" You would need to meet the licensing requirements and pass the required exam in any other country you wanted to practice in.You would need to at least have your BSN.

Hi periodical. I have always wondered about the same thing, as I'm passionate about medical missionary work. I couldn't find too much information on the subject either, until a few months ago, one new traveller nurse showed up. Anyways... we were all thinking she was English (accent let it out LOL) with a permit to work in US, or maybe a legal permanent resident ... BUT NO, she is a nurse, actually, a nurse mid-wife, however, she doesn't like to function as such in USA, only when she goes abroad. I was waiting to become more friends and start asking questions...when her time was up and she went to frigging "Bahamas" for a contract of 12 weeks...... ?! I thought really? Seriously? Lol BUT, BUT.... she came back! She said she kinda liked out hospital... go figure.... anyways... she explained to me that it's a "international nursing license". We do have to sit for another test, yes, and she also said that it's one extremely hard, all discursive questions....and we can only work in those countries inside the agreement of whatever... I guess it work just like our license here and the states that will accept it.

I know that it's been a year you posted... so if you found more info than this please contact me and if not, I will try to find more with her too. She works at a very busy floor, me too (separate floors) and everytime I decide to ask such questions ppl around decide they wanna talk to her too and about blah blah blah.... arrgrrr LOL

Good luck!

There is no such thing as an international license. To work in another country you need a license and a work permit for that country.

There is no such thing as an International license as mentioned each country has their own requirements both for immigration and working in the country as well as nursing requirements
