Hello Everyone:
I will be graduating from nursing school next year. I have a great interest on working as a Well- Baby Nurse. Could anyone please tell about what are the requirements. Like Experience? Certifications? What are the responsabilities of the job? Salary range? In brief, anything and everything you could tell me would help.
Thanks:heartbeat

Im in the same boat as you. I currently have my NRP, breastfeeding classes and Ill be taking a fetal monitoring class soon. Take a look at job requirements in your area and see if there is anything that you can do while in school. I also did my senior capstone in L&D/Post Partum and got some great reference letters.

Just know the normal values for pediatrics. Remember that it's different than an adult's. It would help if you read up your maternal and child book(s) so you would know which diseases to look out for and to assess well when you get to the area.
Good Luck! :)

I have always wanted to work as a well-baby nurse, or a nurse in a "nursery" of sorts. My understanding is that these areas have almost become extinct in the hospital. Most hospitals are moving to rooming in care, where one nurse cares for both mother and baby. The only specialty that works "strictly with the babies" is the NICU, and there they aren' t well-babies but sick babies. Many hospitals have "step-down/intermediate" type NICU's for babies that aren't sick enough to be in the NICU but not well enough to be roomed in/cared for by mother or discharged.
