U.S.A. Colorado

Published

I'm in CA and am looking to apply to Denver School of Nursing. I'm lookin' to just get in almost anywhere --In fact, I've only been in Denver once for a weekend.

Can anybody share with me some information about it?

Does it have a good/bad reputation for instruction, NCLEX pass rate, tuition, etc.?

Anything is helpful. thanks!

Well, I am going to start calling here in about 30 minutes or so. I just don't see the point in starting 1-2 hours before when I know they don't answer phones before 9am. I have all but Micro and Stats for my BS but I'm going to do their ADN program so I can start working sooner and get my BS from UCD's online RN-BSN or RN-MSN. I know DSON will have their NLN "meeting" in August from what I hear but I'd rather get my BS from UCD doing the online program while working. I have to get my RN (and want to lol!) to use my lactation credential. Pretty much everyone requires it now since there's a alot of things that go outside the scope of practice for an IBCLC. OH and this is my first post-I've read here a long time and I've jumped right in:)

Thought I'd update. Dh and I have both been calling like every second since 9 with no luck.

ETA: I'm in for the ADN!! It took me 2 hours 22 minutes and Jeff answered. He said their phones shut down twice! Also their BSN program filled up 45 minutes ago! WOAH!

Congratulations! The calling process is scary. I am starting in July for a BSN.

CONGRATS!!! I got into the BSN program! I'm very excited. It took me about an hour to get through and I had about 10 friends here helping me call!

Congrats Lovelittleton!!! I got through to them also!!! I had 2 other people helping me too, but we had 4 computers logged on to skype and 5 cell phones going, Sounds excessive I know, but it worked, we started calling right at 9am and got through at 9:07, we thought it was going to take us a few hours, but it was fast. When are you scheduled for your interview and HESI? I got mine for April 22nd and the test is the next day I think. Anyone else get through?

Oh, and they raised the tuition too, as I was informed on the phone. It's not to much more, because once you go over 40k a few more thousand doesn't make too mucn difference. I'm going to start looking for scholarships, anyone have any resources or ideas on where to start?

Best of luck to everyone!

Sounds great! But you are aware they dont have regional accreditation from the HLC, they have been only grated partial/candidate status. This is a direct quote from their website "The school is seeking institutional accreditation with an agency acceptable to the Colorado Commission on Higher Education and the Colorado State Board of Nursing." Therefore UCD cannot accept any degrees from their school? Call both UCD and DSON to verify this but last time I checked (two weeks ago) they still did not have this accreditation. The next evaluation is in September/October 2010 where they might be granted full accreditation or might not. Check with UCD first, they will tell you if they will accept it. If they do that's a big step for DSON and good luck!

Thanks Bre1286, really appreciate your response. I've search the sites you posted and found a few with deadlines coming :) Also did some research on the web, and unfortunately, It looks like it'll be tough finding scholarships b/c many scholarships require your school to be accredited.

Their BSN program filled up so fast because everyone got rejected from CU denver and is now scrambling to find a school to go to. Thats what I heard anyway.

Can someone explain to me about the credits transfering? I have all of the prereq's done, so I don't have anything but nursing courses and those credits don't transfer. I graduated from an accredited community college in CA with my LVN/LPN. When I submited transcripts to Front Range none of my nursing credits transfered from the school in CA. I don't have to take English and classes like that, and I have already taken patho. So I assume this doesn't apply to me? Or if I get my RN from DSON does that mean I can't go to UNC and do their RN-BSN? Univ of Phoenix said they may take those credits. So I don't fully understand what they mean. Does that mean your RN is not really an RN? The classes at DSON look to be the same as Front Range or Aims, with the same number of credit hours....

Your RN comes from your school being accredited with the state BoN.

Your degree's stature with other schools comes from the school's regional accreditation and it's NLNAC and/or CCNE accreditation.

As far as UNC, the absolute best thing you can do is call and ask if an ADN from DSON will transfer.

and are currently working on attaining NLN accreditation, which is a national nursing agency.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone attending Denver school of nursing, have an update on their NLN accreditation?

Thanks!
