U.S.A. Colorado

Published

I'm in CA and am looking to apply to Denver School of Nursing. I'm lookin' to just get in almost anywhere --In fact, I've only been in Denver once for a weekend.

Can anybody share with me some information about it?

Does it have a good/bad reputation for instruction, NCLEX pass rate, tuition, etc.?

Anything is helpful. thanks!

Just to update everyone on the accred process of DSN, I talked to J. J. (the director of admission) today. He said that they have already submitted DSN paperowrk for NLN accred. He said they should know by the end of the year. He said the DSN had been working with the NLN on the side for about 3 years before they submitted thier paperwork. He said he's heard "Unofficially" that there are no problems. Also DSN is going to be recomenned for fast track for the regional accred. So by spring-ish 2011, they should have all the same accred that CU and regis have. So if you're thinking DSN bc they dont have a waitlist, I'd get on there now bc when all this happens, people will be lined up to apply.

Be aware this guy when I went there he promised us that we would have accreditation by the time we graduated and we didn't until well after we had all graduated. The man really ticks me off ...he's a really good use car salesman if you ask me.

Thanks for the heads up. Did he say that DSN would have the tech school accred or was he saying the NLN accred? When did you grad and how long after that did DSN get some sort of accred? Did you have a hard time getting a job with your BSN from DSN or did you apply to grad school at all? Just trying to get some info from an actual grad from DSN.

Thanks!!

Melissa

I graduated with my LPN in Dec. 06 then my RN in Dec. 07. Prior to even starting my LPN he stated that DSN would definitely be accredited before I even graduated with my LPN. Then the school finally got accredited just this past year. So 3 years total and way after I graduated with my RN.

I am glad I went to this school don't get me wrong b/c I learned a ton and I have a great job as an RN from them and my sign on bonus paid for my entire school just about with a 2 year contract.

It just seems that this guy wanted to get things to sound better than they were at the time. This school doesn't have any idea for certain when they will get NLN...it's up to the board.

Jeff is a great talker ...

So did DSN help you get your job? Do you work here in Denver? Was the accred retro-active? I am going there regardless but was just wondering.

No DSN did not help me with finding a job, I went after that by myself. No we were not grandfathered in after the school got accredited. Most places won't even look into when you graduated it appears, so it's a good thing that they are now accepted as being an accredited nursing school.

Don't get me wrong like I said...the school is great... I just don't like how some people run the show on getting new excited wanting to start asap students there. But that is probably happening at every school anyhow.

Agreed, he's a snake oil salesman, he will tell you whatever you want to sign with the school. Although after talking to the associate dean about accreditation they are on track to submit regional accreditation by this fall and NLN accreditation soon after that. They have been in talks with the NLN for quite awhile and have been setting things up according to guidelines. Some people don't understand this is a process and takes awhile. The school has only been around since 2004, it's going to take time for everything to come together. It is also harder b/c they are both a BSN and ADN school, which requires a lot of different requirements.

I currently work at both U of Colorado Hospital and The Children's Hospital and both are willing to hire me upon graduation. I graduate in Sept 2010 and we should have all 3 accreditations by then if things go according to plan.

Hi Niecystewka,

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get hired with a sign-on bonus so much that would help pay for the tuition???

I would love to know about all the opportunities so that I know where to look when appling for jobs as a RN. Thanks in advance!

bfrdncr41 - that's so great to hear both of those hospitals are willing to hire you!!! Especially Univ. of Colo., they've been so stickler about DSN, so I didn't think they'd be open so quickly!

They are waiting for us to get NLN accreditation and said they have been waiting for awhile! They look forward to hiring our grads according to the new grad program coordinator. So that's great news for DSN!

Hi! I'm interested in applying to the BSN program at DSoN for July 2010. Can anyone tell me about the application process? I am just confused.. on the website it just gives a date (Jan 4) to call and set up an appointment.. I don't get it. Can someone just run me through this?

Thanks :)

You have to call on Jan. 4 to set up an interview. The catch is that you have to actually reach a live person, you can't leave a message. And if you don't get through to a live person before they fill up the interview spots, then you have to wait three months for the next day to call.
