I thought I would pass along some info I recieved this morning for those of us waiting to hear back from Calhoun. I recieved this info from a press release at the chamber of commerce (I am a member and they sent this info out in a newsletter). Anyway, they said that applications were up 36% from Fall 2008 applications and gave the number breakdown as follows.
The comparison of 2008 to 2009 applications by program is below:
2009: ADN/RN: 544 2008: 449
2009: PN (Practical Nursing): 211 2008: 161
2009 PTE (Part-Time Evening): 277 2008: 145
Beginning this fall, the college will now admit two classes of Associate degree nursing students - one in August and one in January, a first for Calhoun. According to McGill, a total of 200 students will be admitted for the August class -- 120 associate's degree (ADN)/RN students and 80 licensed practical nursing (LPN) students. One hundred additional ADN students will be admitted in January 2010.
Moved to this area late last year, I graduated from LPN school in August 08. I applied to Calhoun for several different option for my RN. I just received an acceptance letter for the Spring 10 semester, but it states that I am an alternate applicate for the Fall 09 semester. What exactly does that mean? I just assumed everyone's letter states that and really what is the possibility of me actually getting in the fall? I choose the adn option because it is only 5 semester where as the career mobility is only 4. Not much difference there. Could someone just give me some info on how the semester work. I have taken all the non nursing classes. So I will only need the core nursing classes. Just need to know about what days of the week? hours? Currently, I work at a pediatricians office during the week. He plans to let me keep my job and go to school. So I would like to have an idea to give him a heads up at how many days a week I will be in school. Is it about three (3)?
Also, where is calhoun located at. I have applied, filled out financial aid, online. Never been to the campus. I quess I need to get an id. Also, the physical form, is there a time frame it must be done in? I got the packet but there is no time frame. Someone, please help me out if you have any of this info. I would greatly appreciate any info. I have called the nursing dept two (2) days in a row and I keep getting someone's voicemail.
It is difficult sometimes to get an answer if you call. I just always go up there. The offices are on the 3rd floor of the Health Science Building...
Calhoun is on Highway 31...Which way will you be coming? Like from the Limestone area or the Decatur area..I can help with the Limestone part.
The way I understand it is that if a certain number of people decide not to accept it for Fall 09, then they will move some of the spring poeple up...I am not totally for sure. So I would definitely ask someone to be sure...
***** ****** is usually who I talk to...She is very nice...you can look up her contact info on Calhoun's website she is usually there until 4:00PM.
I hope this helps some!! and congratulations on getting in :)
all medical paperwork has to be submitted by the first day of class. The letter says that they will accept it before then, but no later.
I would also love to know how many days of the week and the hours we are looking at. I guess we will just have to wait until orientation to find out though.
