I thought I would pass along some info I recieved this morning for those of us waiting to hear back from Calhoun. I recieved this info from a press release at the chamber of commerce (I am a member and they sent this info out in a newsletter). Anyway, they said that applications were up 36% from Fall 2008 applications and gave the number breakdown as follows.
The comparison of 2008 to 2009 applications by program is below:
2009: ADN/RN: 544 2008: 449
2009: PN (Practical Nursing): 211 2008: 161
2009 PTE (Part-Time Evening): 277 2008: 145
Beginning this fall, the college will now admit two classes of Associate degree nursing students - one in August and one in January, a first for Calhoun. According to McGill, a total of 200 students will be admitted for the August class -- 120 associate's degree (ADN)/RN students and 80 licensed practical nursing (LPN) students. One hundred additional ADN students will be admitted in January 2010.
Waiting to hear news about Fall 09 program. My fingers are crossed and crossed again. Regarding the post above that mentioned having talked to the lady in the bookstore..... I would say consider the source. I would not give much thought to how much information she really knows. I called the nursing department Thursday regarding the background check information they posted. I asked if the lady who answered the phone when we should know about acceptances. She said mid June. I would think if they are trying to get an earlier start this year, they have already been charting each applicant and the point system since the apps have been accepted since Jan. I would imaging they are just filling in the blanks from those applicants who are in the Biology classes in the spring so they can get their total points in. If they have their duckies in a row, they should have a good idea by now of who will be accepted. I was told previously that they were trying to be earlier this year due to almost running out of time and scrambling last summer in receiving background info, immunizations, etc. right up to time of classes starting.
Lets all just pray and keep positive vibes and thoughts going and hopefully the wait will be over in the next few weeks.
I worry about not getting in. I have a plan B and a plan C just in case!! I'm so tired of worrying, too. If only we could know right away whether or not we even come close to getting in. I applied to nursing school last October, for Fall 2009. Recently, we relocated and now I'm panicking about childcare since I don't know anyone in the town. Good luck to you!
so they gonna start sending out those letters by mid june? i hope i get in...i got As on all BIO classes....total of 180+....good luck girls...btw, someone who is currently a student at calhoun nursing told me to go elsewhere...bec of restructuring and the teachers are not that good....i have applied at both wallace state and calhoun tho....
I e-mailed the head of the program to ask if both the fall & spring students selected were going to come from the pool of applicants that were due April 1 or if there would be another application point for the Spring. She said they are all coming from the April 1 pool. I was hoping if I didn't get in this fall, I'd have a chance to use my points from this summer to boost my chances for the Spring. Oh well, I guess it's 100% out of my hands now.
