Hello everyone.
I saw this in the Army Times and thought it might be of use to someone considering going "Green to Gold"
Army Medical Department Enlisted Commissioning Program: "...provides active and reserve enlisted Soldiers with an opportunity to earn a college degree in nursing, become a registered nurse and be Commissioned in the Active Component of the Nurse Corps.
"Soldiers receive full pay and allowances for up to 24 months while they are enrolled in the program. The Army pays up to $9,000 annually for academic costs.
"The Soldier must provide Recruiting Command with an unconditional letter of acceptance to an accredited nursing school before they can begin their Army-funded studies"

I just submitted my packet through AECP and was selected to participate for FY2009. I'm really excited about it, but the hard part is getting into a nursing school that will waive fees. I'm on active duty here in Hawaii, and am working on trying to get into UH Manoa, since Hawaii Pacific University wouldn't waive my fees. HPU is more Navy friendly because their commissioning program doesn't have a tuition cap.
Has anyone gone through the AECP on this forum? Any recommended schools?

Congrats on your acceptance. I am starting the AECP this August (FY 08) at LSU. I don't know if your heart is set on remaining in HI, but many schools that I looked at (LSU, Purdue, Columbus State--near Ft Benning, GA) are willing to charge in-state fees (regardless of legal residence) which were under the $9,000 cap.
Hopefully this has been changed for the better, but I felt that information concerning what to do after you are selected and waiting to start the BSN program was sorely lacking. Make sure you go to AECP website, and click on the AMEDD Student Detachment link. It will give you useful information on in-processing and how to get your orders. That link has all the in-processing documents you need. Unless you are a PAC clerk by MOS, get with your S1 to help you with some of the forms. Once you get your unconditional school acceptance, mail it the AECP program manager, he will generate your orders. If you are planning a PCS move to your school, you will move directly to the school and in-process Ft Sam by mail (and only by mail--no inperson processing). Your BAH will be at the rate of the school you are attending. Be advised that your report date will be one day before classes start with no early report authorized. For instance, my classes begin August 11, so my official report date is August 10. So make sure that you have plenty of PCS leave and try to get permissive TDY to get settled to your new area. The other option is to report early and attach yourself to a local unit (e.g. a ROTC unit). You will send in all your in-processing documents before school starts (give yourself at least 3 weeks). I sent in my in-processing about a week ago(22 July for a 10 August report date). I'm a bit anxious about this whole in-process via the mail knowing the tremendous red-tape involved in any Army transaction.

You may also want to look into the ADHPLRP if the waiver becomes an impossibility. It pays for school and reasonable living expenses while in school on the back end for 3 years of service, but no salary, benefits, BAH/BAS while in school. Essentially you have to separate as enlisted and then rejoin as an direct commission officer. Just another option that is out there.

You are absolutely right. The guidance after you are accepted is non-existant. I finally found a ph # to call the student det at Sam and she asked me to fax my leave form and orders and the program manager would send me my in-processing papers. I still feel uninformed. My classes at APSU don't start until the 25th so I have time to figure it out, I guess.

Well I too, was accepted into the AECP Program at the Sept 2007 Board; while I was in IRAQ. It has been one heck of a ride thusfar--and I'd really like to get off soon!!! I start school on August 25th, but have all day orientation on Saturday, August 23rd. I don't know about the rest of you...but "YOU ARE YOUR OWN ARMY" has become my new slogan. I got my orders on July 23, with a report date of 10 August -- 1350 miles away...add a family, (5 yr old) and you are sinking in deep, quickly! Today was the first day I actually made contact with a living human at the other end of the phone, who, said she was sending me the in-processing packet as we spoke....4 hours later, no packet. I am just curious if any of you others had any clear direction or information prior to receiving your PCS Orders and is this what we are truly up against for the remaining 2 years? Any suggestions, cuz I start school in two days, have nothing turned into whomever or wherever it is supposed to go to and am stressing hard. Is it just me, or was this mission poorly planned and lacking a leadership figure?

Sorry for your troubles!! Whatever you do, please fax your DA Form 2125 ASAP to the student detachment manager. The AMEDD Student Detachment has been down for 3 weeks now and to get the inprocessing forms seem impossible, but you can send your orders, ERB, DD93, SGLV, BAH forms, travel voucher forms, and housing forms in as well. Call everyday if possible; oh, don't forget to turn in your book reimbursement form; that is money that you will need, especially after coming out of your pockets for uniforms and books expenses.
Thanks for the information, just a few questions:
1. I thought we send the DA2125 at the completion of each semester;
2. The DITY expense reports are supposed to be mailed to the address on their form; however, mine reflects Ft. Lewis, despite being stationed at Ft. Sam Houston, but on duty in Portland, OR. Do you think I should send it to Ft. Lewis?
3. Does the book reimbursement get submitted right away in the AECP Program and not at the completion of the 1st semester? Do they reimburse us for REQUIRED lab uniforms, shoes, and medical instruments?
4. Any other information you can provide would be greatly appreciated as it is now 28August08 and I am still not in-processed.

i know a lot of army that have gone to Washburn University, in Topeka, Kansas, for the aecp program. They really go out of their way to work with Army. It is an hour from Fort Riley, KS, so a lot of our enlisted apply to go there. Good luck, i think its a great program. I've been trying to talk one of my neighbors into doing it. and you can always get a waiver. I have known people get accepted with as high as 20 yrs active duty enlisted E-8. Just keep applying. If you get turned down once, put another packet in.

AECP students! we've implemented an AECP message board on the ASD website! http://www.cs.amedd.army.mil/32medbde/newDocs/ASD%20AECPmessage%20board.aspx Visit for information, inprocessing instructions, etc. You can also call the AECP program manager for specifics. Dont stress and dont hesitate to contact us with quesitons. We've come a long way with the program -as far as command control:yeah:. The funding is all up to the Nurse Corps and the LTHET program. Remember, lots of states let Active Duty military attend school at the resident rate, regardless of what state you pay taxes to!

Barhood32 - I was just looking at LSU's curriculum and I don't see how you could compress it into two years. How did you get them to do it? Has the curriculum changed since you went there? Thanks!!!
