Infection control review on NCLEX-RN

Published

Since lots of people mentioned Infection control questions on their NCLEX-RN, I wonder if there is any NCLEX-RN book giving you a systemic review on infection control? I have Lipppincott's, HESI, and Saunder's CD, but didn't find a topic on it. So, how should I prepare for this topic? Just by common sense?

I did have a lot of infection control questions--glad I read on here to study up on it. The only thing I used to study was my Saunders Comprehensive Book. There is a section in one of the first few chapters that talks about droplet vs airborne vs contact isolation (I think it's the pt safety chapter). It helped me...hope it helps you!

Thanks Landonsles! Maybe I need a Saunders comprehensive review book.

Hi everyone,

I too have questions regarding precautions! I figured I already learned about precautions and understood them...Until I began studying for the NCLEX and have found many questions that confuse me. Some will say a gown and gloves are needed in addition to the respirator mask for airborne precautions, other questions will say only a respirator mask is required. I understand the basics--airborne requires a special respirator mask, droplet requires a regular mask if within 3 feet, contact requires gown and gloves, no mask...But then I see qs either through Saunders or Kaplan that ask regarding gloves/gowns, etc. I am so confused and have used 3 books to try and figure it out to no avail! Every book says something different with regard to this! If anyone can further explain I would appreciate it! I am worried I will miss all the precaution qs. on NCLEX because of my confusion.

Thanks~!

I had quite a few infection control questions on my test. What kind of room assignments for particular dx's, who should or should not be roomies ect. Oh and a couple vaccination q's. What type of protective clothing per dx and negative pressure rooms isolation ect.
