Is anyone able to help me put together a first aid kit for infants? I am sure someone knows of what to put into one or where to get one. Thanx

May 2, 2005 I made one for a first time mom as a shower gift a few years ago. I bought a nice container that sealed up tight and put a bunch of things in it:a digital thermometera bath thermometer a nasal aspiratorseveral oral med syringesTylenol dropsOragelOvol0.05% Otrivin dropselectrical outlet coversdrawer and cabinet locksa gel ice packa box of Bandaids in assorted sizes anda book on baby careShe loved it and I was asked to make several more. You might want to just go to the baby aisle of a major retailer and look at the stuff they have. You'll be able to customize your kit by choosing the things you'd be most likely to use.

So it is family related. But I would like it to have everything so in the middle of the night you're not searching for things you need.

But it's nice to have the gas drops on hand to avoid going to the 24-hr pharmacy bleary-eyed and frazzled to buy them at 0100!

kids 1 Article; 2,334 Posts May 9, 2005 I'm coming into this late but I did want to comment on the Tylenol drops.Tylenol drops do not carry dosage labeling for infants under 6 months. For this reason they should not be given except on the advice of the pediatrician. In my experience working in a peds clinic, fevers, especially in young infants, need to be evaluated.

I know every fever should be evaluated, however in the instance where medical care is far awayis there a "safe" dose? Thanks. bonjoduea
kids 1 Article; 2,334 Posts May 10, 2005 It is my understanding that ibuprophen should *never* be given younger than 6 months. The clinic I worked at does not give it nor does the Peds practice where my grandson is a patient.edited to add: I just checked my advice notebook. The manufacturer of Tylenol has a dosage chart that starts at 6 pounds. The one from Motrin infant drops says it is not to be given younger than 6 months.
