I wanted some information on this online school. I have been following this place for awhile and wanted to know if anyone is currently attending, has attended, or will be attending this online school. Thank You
I got my 4 nursing challange exams through the college network. You can try to look on ebay to see if anyone is selling there books. If you end up failing one of the exams, you need to show Indiana State proof that you did purchase the nursing Challenge exam books through the college network. I failed one and had to re-take it but I didnt have my purchase documents from the college network so they just had me send a copy of the first page so I could re-take the exam. The nursing challenge exam book through the college network has all the information you need to pass the test!! Hopes this helps!!!
Where can I get some information regarding the 4 challenge exam course ..What book did u use in taking those 4 challenge exams..Pls. advise
When you sign up for the ISU challenge exam, you will be given a test study guide of what may be on the test. The study guide is a great resource. I just went down the list, read about the subjects and made notes. I also read a comprehensive RN NCLEX study guide chapters for the test subjects, as well as Lippincotts Get A's in Mental Health, and the same book for other test subjects.
You do not have to buy the $525 each study guide. The school requires its nursing students in the first semester to buy the ATI NCLEX study E-Book program--I think it was about $325. All ISU nursing students must to pass the ATI test before we can graduate. The entire ATI review program/study guide and E-book cost me less than one TCN book. ATI is also a great study resource. I do not know if you can just buy one E-Book each for the subjects of the exam, but you may want to look into that. As someone who bought TCN studyguides, you don't need them. The other info is also available in other books on the subject and at a cheaper price.
If someone wants to pay $250 each for the 4 TCN study guides and then pay the $300 +/- challenge test fee (min $1300 for the exams) as well as a proctor fee for the agency/school who proctors you, that is their business but if you went TCN route you would be spending a good amount of money that is not necessary.
I have the module for mental health pediatric n OB through TCN and after every chapter there is a practice test and on the mental health there are 100 questions questions and answers 50 each review did these helped u in taking the test if u only study those practice tests. AhSo u mentioned about challenge exam book through TCN is there a particular book on that? Cuz I have the book for mental health and peds n ob that I was able to download it is their printable version through TCN. Please advise...
Did you talk to ATI about their modules? You may be able to buy it separately. Just a thought.
ISU studyguides-$525 eadh. Unless you have the TCN/ISU study guides designed for the challenge tests, you have nothing. If you have them, then you wasted your money because all the info is available through general nursing books, comprehensive NCLEX study guides, and subject study guides through Lippincott. Further, ISU will provide you with a stuidy guide list of info that might be on the test. You would use this info to study for.
I found that the TCN/ISU challenge study guides missed a good deal of info and that there wre questions on the test that were never covered in the ISU/TCN studyguides. However, since I studied other books, I had the info. I objected to the missing info and posted a post on AllNurses about the missing info that should have been in the ISU/TCN study guides.
Save your money--do not buy the TCN study guides for the ISU challenge tests. Do not think that having possession of these study guides is a guarantee that you will pass the tests.
Lady in scrubs-I am new to allnurses and I have read many posts by you that were so helpful. Are you finished with the program? I was interested in buying TCN materials used. Do you know where I could get them? Thanks!
Am still in the program. Buying TCN guides new--they change them every year. I would not advise buying the expensive guides new. Go to the ISU website and download the objectives of the various tests...if they are not online, call the school and get the objectives of the tests. The objectives of the test will outline what is to be covered. You can study from that outline--just take the subject and then look up the info in the appropriate nursing texts or a comprehensive study guide for the subject. Since new TCN study guides cost $525 each, you can buy many, many nursing texts, comprehensive study guides or NCLEX comprehensive study guide/test questions for a fraction of the cost of one TCN study guide. Save you money---you will need it for the cost of the challenge exams.
Thanks a lot your info is very helpfull. Have you checked into the clinicals. I'M wondering if I will have to travel far for that portion. When I was in LVN school I was with a big class at my clinicals. I'm wondering what the clinicals are like threw ISU. Thanks for your helpJosully
Remember there are two ISU LPN to BSN programs--Calif and non Calif. Calif program takes longer to complete but clinicals are located and assigned to the students. The problem with clinicals in Calif is there are so many campus nursing programs that they take most of the facilities. The ISU clinical liaison (aka Millie) must be creative to locate appropriate facilities. I am very lucky that my clinical this year is a lovely facility and fits the requirements for the clinical to a "T".

Mental health has started and I have a clincial site. The mental health classes are two classes: a didactic class and a clinical class--as well as fulfilling clinical hours.
