Indecisive Which Province/ Country to Work

World Canada

Published

Hi everyone,

I am a recent graduate and passed my NCLEX this Feb. I feel like I wanted to explore more working job opportunities outside Ontario/ Canada.

I got a job offer in rural Prince Edward Island this March but I declined it because of my plan to go to the US. Yes, you can definitely shout at me.

I currently live in Ontario & have my CNO RPN & RN registration. I also got my Nova Scotia RN registration & licensed with Michigan this August. Yes, I have been busy. I have browsed on Nova Scotia and is interviewed for job opportunity. But it seems that health care in Nova Scotia is behind Ontario in terms of technological progress i.e. electronic patient record, MAR, documentation etc.

But my plan is really to go to Maine. Yes, still close to the Canadian maritime side. I already got a US job offer this March 2019 and having issues with Maine State BON. I am just awaiting now for the big decision after eventually all the BON's requests have been submitted.

I got my CGFNS Visa Screen this July and I am ready for a new adventure.

Regardless, my mind is set to leave Ontario before the end of the year.

I never thought someone would reply me .
Thanks again for your inputs.
I know it’s going to Very lengthy long process ....Just saying by gods grace if I get License in Alberta do u think it will be harder to convert my license back to Ontario.Shd I have to work there in Alberta.

Er, even AB government is planning on slashing nursing jobs.  The economy sucks.  I’ve got 20 years seniority and am worried if I will have a job this time next year.

Hi ... ya your right .I am not planning to work there . Just get license and transfer here if possible because my family is here in Ontario.

Hey .. Hi...

CNO have replied to start process with NNAS in Ontario itself.

Happy to heat that! If I need they might send a refresher course as requirement before giving chance!!

Update: I chose the US instead. Just got my US RN licensuure this Nov. 2019.

So how do you like it? I am an ICU nurse in Washington state and thinking of moving to Ontario or NS for my kids to become citizens/learn french and be able to have access to cheaper education since I don't think I'll be able to afford universities here for them. Any advice? What is the salary in Ontario and pros and cons as you have now experienced both sides. I wanna make sure I can still afford to live comfortably with 3 kids there...

CANADA:

I came from Toronto and pretty much has higher cost of living although it's in Canadian dollars but still high. I didn't need to have a car just because of the public transporation. But eventually had one when I moved out of the city. I had my loan for my BSN in ON and it's still way cheaper than the US. Your hourly rate depends on your experience. The ONA new grad rate for BSN RN now is $33 while $31 at the hospital I work in Maine. Most hospitals are unionized in ON. Due to conversion rate, I gain some extra when I send money to Canada.

USA:

The car insurance rate is way cheaper but depends on liability. I am actually enjoying the US that I feel like I am paying less here in terms of the simple stuff I.e. no parking, less phone/electrical/gasoline price etc. But the healthcare is somewhat confusing. I am fulltime but have not used my benefits yet. The tuition fees in the US I feel like is too expensive.
