Hi,

I am very much interested in joining the Army Nurse Corps. I recently, passed NCLEX and was doing a new grad program, but resigned. I spoke with a recruiter today, but still wanted to speak with anyone personally who went throught this program as a new grad. What was your experience like? Expectations? Support systems? How did you feel throughout your officer trainer and as anew grad on the floor? I feel as though this is a good opportunity for me, however, I want as much "heads up" and feedback that I can possiblyget from anyone who has gone this route before. Thank you! Good luck with your decision. I would take a look at all services, unless you are set on the Army. Every service differs just a bit (i.e. base location, incentives, lifestyle). I wish you the best of luck with your decision.

I have a similar interest in joining the Army Nurse Corps. However, I have not yet graduated Nursing School. What are the advantages/disadvantages of joining the Army after graduation? I think this is something I want to do...however, I agree, I need a lot more feedback before I make any kind of decision.

Greetings - I just did my Army physical and 2 day tour of an army post and the hospital. During that time I was able to spend some 1 on 1 time with 2 army nurses in order to get a tour and their perspective.

I have am prior service Army and left last year in order to pursue nursing.

I can help answer specific questions -

Pros/Cons and such. Do you have loans? Have you looked on the army website and have you an idea of what specialty you would like to be in? Psych / OBGYN / OR / ER / ICU ?

You can PM me i'm almost through with my application process and get give some general feedback on what is required and the selection process... My list has many PROs and relatively few CONs ;)

pls let me ask you some questions. i do want to join the army reserve. i have ADN been practincing nursing for the last 6 mon. i would like to cont. for my BSN. will the army pay for my BSN?

i'm single and i don't have issues to relocat. will i be able to find a position in ICU? my biggest concern is i'm 5'1 and 87lbs will that be a set back to me to join the army?? thank you for your time

Runrun, glad to see you here on the boards! Since you are interested in joining the reserves, they have a program called STRAP, that will assist you in getting your BSN (in the form of a monthly stipend). I would recommend you check it out... there are other options if you are considering Active duty, but for reserves, that will probably be your best option.

PS- I do not have the standards here in front of me, but I do not believe your Height/weight will be an issue as far as the Army is concerned... as long as you can perform your duties and meet physical fitness standards.

Other option run,

is if you plan to get in the army and do your BSN... as long as you know you are a good candidate (ie you can pass physical, no law issues etc) then perhaps 'bet' that you will be accepted and apply to a BSN program and then towards the Junior/senior year of it you can apply to the army and get a loan repayment for your debt.

i love the army so im probably not the best to give you a list of the pro's and con's, i tend to see just the pro's. i was enlisted and got out to go back to school and then came back in as a nurse. i have to say that bc of my prior service experience, i feel like in the nurse corps i am just a nurse. not a lot of army stuff. sure ever now and again you have to take a pt test or go to the range but basically if i didnt have to drive to work in uniform i would forget i was active duty. But the army is not for everyone. it can be a hard life with deployments and assignments or locations that you might not have wanted. for example both me and my spouse will be deployed when our oldest graduats high school this may. if you have more specific questions id be glad to try and answer them.
