In need of encouragement!!

Hey everyone, I am in my 4th semester of nursing school and I have dug myself into a big whole. In one of my classes I have a 71 average and we have to make an 80 to pass. I have 3 test left and a final that counts 25%. I am in need of some encouragement, because I study my tail off and I don't see any of my hard studying paying off. It just makes me mad that I study like everyday and still make bad on test, and then these people in my class study for like one day and make a good grade. I don't get it. So for all you prayer warriors out there please send up some prayers my way because I need all the help I can get.

You can still pass this course! Do you study with anyone? Do study groups work for you? If you think your notes are poor, ask a fellow student if you could compare and see if you are missing important information. Ask your instructor for advice on how to pull your grade up. You have time to fix this. Don't give up. Good luck.

you don't say what you're studying, but from here it looks like you should drop by your school's esl office and see if they can set you up with a tutor from your program.

Find a new way to study. Don't give up!

yes there were grammatical errors but her english looks pretty good. i type fast and make errors all the time. no need to be rude. it seems like you said that to be hurtful. will you care for your patients with that same caring demeanor?

ok, let's look at this from the data presented. the op makes multiple english errors including usage and maybe dropped words ("dug ... into a whole," "three test left," "study like everyday and still make bad on test"). this is all there is to consider. they may be typing errors, but that doesn't matter if that is what her faculty is seeing too, or if it is getting in the way of academic success.

which is why i said, "from here it looks like..." because if this is characteristic of her writing skills and self-editing, and possibly her reading skills, it may be that this would account for her poor testing performance (for which she originally said she wanted prayers). it may also hinder her in her written work product for class, at a time when academic expectations are higher than they are in the earlier semesters. fact is that you have to successfully complete all semesters, and some people do flunk out in their last one. so...my advice stands, absent better data.

I think if the tests you are failing are tests where you must write out answers or write reports. Then yes, go over and make sure you are not making grammatical errors. That always helps, I agree. But I can't assume english is your first or second language. So I'm not going to recommend ESL.

As for taking tests that are MC or fill in the blank, I ALWAYS had this problem!!!! I would study ALOT more than my sister would, and she'd blow the test grade out of the water after studying a few times before. Pretty frustrating. But I recommend if you have access to look at your tests(I'm in the online program so I'm not sure if thats available) that you do so. Someone else posted studying in groups, i 100% recommend this. I did that for a while and it REALLY helped me. I dont really do it now in the program, but its a great source to get questions answered and a better understanding of things. Take a step back and look at how you're studying/what you're studying.

Keeping you in my prayers! :)

I'm quite aware of how old this thread is, but I hope you read this. Your comment was NOT being helpful, it was just plain mean. She obviously got into nursing school which meant that she passed the test to get in. In addition to that, she made it all the way to her 4th semester!!! Her struggles CLEARLY had nothing to do with her grammar and writing/communication abilities if she got that far. My point in typing this is, if you do read this, I hope you can take a look at yourself and think "do I like myself? Am I a kind person?" If not, get out of nursing, because it is people like you who make nursing so very hard sometimes. Such rampant horizontal violence. P.S. Lose the font; it is obnoxious. Did the proper use of my semi colon meet your grammatical expectations?

There was nothing unkind. I would agree with her assessment of the OP and suggest the OP seek help from the appropriate source. What prompted this lashing out?
