One of the major problems you will encounter is finding a employer in the United States who will wait 6+ years for your arrival. Yes, it has been taking that long for foreign-trained nurses to get here and start working due to retrogression.

In addition, many nurses here in the United States are unemployed and desperate to find jobs, and many of the major cities in Texas have too many nurses already.

In what way have you made plans to move to the US? BSN may be accepted but a lot will depend on what your transcripts show when assessed for a state license

Finding an employer is NOT a problem, he wont need to wait for my arrival either. thanks for your help anyway.

yes, waiting for my final exams then will send my transcripts to CGFNS for their evaluation. hoping for the best!!

He WILL need to wait the several years until you get your Green Card. you cannot work until then.

When you finish school there get your RN License first in Ghana. The migration process coukd take up to 1 year and you need to be an RN first to be considered for employment.

You then do a credential evaluation, look up requirements for the state you moving too. WES is pretty well known evaluator. Then start applying for jobs with employers willing to be your sponsor - international staffing agencies may do this - this is the most difficult part. Once you do get hired you should be able to work on an HB 1 work visa.

You can immigrate first if your relatives want to sponsor you, how long that takes depends on the closeness to the relative by blood relation. However YES definitely get your RN license there in Ghana first before moving or starting this process. Check uscis.gov for immigration options .Check the state board of nursing for nclex and license options

If all plans of emigrating here in Texas (via family sponsorship) have been laid out for you within 2 years after graduating from your BSN, then you don't need a local license from Ghana to take the NCLEX RN. However if you're still going to wait for your family to process your immigration papers or get a working visa, then you might want to take the local licensure and work as a nurse in Ghana first. Usually, it is up to the credentialing agency to evaluate your BSN if it is of US standards. Texas only accepts evaluation reports from three agencies (CGFNS, IERF, and ERES).
