Hello,

I am in desperate need of a Family Nurse Practitioner to Precept me for the final 8 week of my graduate program. The session runs from Oct 29 - Dec 23 and I can work any combination of days/times. I am looking for a clinical site around mid to southern Wisconsin. Please let me know if this is something you would consider!

Make a student resumé and in the Objectives section, list what you're seeking, how many hours, days per week, etc.

For family med, I just printed a stack of student resumés, put on a really nice business casual outfit and went from practice to practice. I introduced myself as an NP student and asked if the docs or NPs/PAs take students. Most of them said yes and took my resumé. Of the 12 I visited, 10 called me back. My program requires 120 hours of family med in Fall and 200 hours of family med in Spring, plus an addtional 100 hours of internal medicine in Spring. I was able to secure both semesters of family med & internal med this way.

I lucked out that my family med practice sees a lot of pediatrics patients and was able to add an additional 60 hours for Peds onto my family med rotation.

I found OB/Gyn at the local county health department.

Just get out there and be bold, introduce yourself and hope for the best. It felt awkward the first few times, but it was a piece of cake by the end. I'm happy I did it because I found a fantastic family med practice and I just love my preceptor, she's a fantastic teacher!

Good luck ?

^ great advice.
