Impossible to find a day time/full time job???

Published

Hi. So I have 2 weeks left of training & I am taking my test next month. I have been looking online for jobs and I need to find a daytime (7-3) shift & full time. There are NONE...they are all part time and nights! My instructor even said we would not find a day time job working in LTC...which makes me question why I was thinking training at all. I have kids & can't work 3-11 or 11-7...I would never see my kids, and frankly they come first. I am thinking of applying to some LTC and saying what I am looking for...maybe if the position becomes available they would call me...??? I am confused!!

Days are going to be hard to come by. I wanted and do work PMs, but every time an AM position is posted there are a ton of people that sign for it. I don't know about other facilities, but in mine it could be years before you were able to get a full time AM spot.

What about applying at a hospital? Or home health? You're not limited to just LTC.

Hope everything works out for you! :)

Assisted Living, Homecare.

HomeCare agencies in my area love new CNA's.

Good luck!

Afternoon, Missie -

Yep, if you're just going by what's advertised online you're going to be convinced that you'll never find what you seek, and yep finding a day shift position as a newly-minted CNA is unlikely. The reason being that the day shift positions are high-visibility, high-responsibility and as a new CNA you're going to be in a steep learning curve, even after training. They're not going to want a noob underfoot during the day shift, except for orientation purposes. Pretty unlikely that an LTC/SNF/Hospital is going to be doable for you, especially if you want to be with your young'uns. As has already been said, +1 on looking into home health/caregiver positions - those are typically day shift. Here in California you need separate certification for HHA; you may or may not in your state. Also, look into nurse's registries, hospice & palliative care, and organizations that cater to same.

And, as always - just 'cause an organization doesn't have an ad out there doesn't mean you shouldn't put an application in - I've had 4 interviews so far; not one of them has been at a facility that had a position advertised!

Best of luck on your clinicals - for me, it was far and away the most interesting (and touching) part of the whole class. My heart goes out to those folks who're cooped up in those facilities.

Take care,

Dave

I would get all the phone numbers for the LTC's in your county and just call and ask. I did that, and found openings for AM shift...=]
