importance of grades

Published

Hi,

I'm a 4th year nursing student and I plan on taking the Dec. 2008 board exams.

My grades aren't particularly stellar. As a matter of fact, I have quite a bit of grades of '3' (75%) due to laziness during my third year.

Anyway, will my mediocre grades affect my chances when the time comes for applying for employment?

Your honest replies are appreciated.

Thanks,

Mia

Well based on my experiences, i really think its important to have good grades. But it all goes down on experience and how you carry yourself. You should learn how to handle pressure. Some students are really good, some are streetsmart and some are just plain lazy. I dont believe in the word "BOBO", its just a matter of attitude. All of us are gifted in many ways, and it's all about being positive. "Ora et Labora"

i'd say grades are important BUT not as much as your perseverance. your grades may give a clue of how you performed in school but hey, people change. we make mistakes, we learn. life gives you a lot of opportunities to do better. just keep on going.

Let me share a story from our reviewer. He said that he once one of those slow learner students until one day, a teacher pat him and said, "very good E." Then after that.... well the rest is history. TO make the story short, his one of the smartest people I know.

Culture can be unlearned and relearned. Its a matter of how you carry on with your life. I once have a 3 in anatomy. The lowest grade I have ever had in my life. ALmost failed that subject and repeat the subject after a year. But NO! I wont let that to happen. I was in 2nd year then. FOr the first time in my college life, I studied late. Around 2am I guess. I had my first taste of coffee. hahaha.... What do you know... I passed!

We all make mistakes. The marks of your grade will stay there forever... The important thing is that your learning.

I was told in our unit that a nurse AWOL. She was very intelligent, they say. But her brain did not carry the pressure the unit is giving her. WIth lack of nurses back then and the ratio of patient. There are also people who are not that good when it comes to lecture or room set-up, but when they're on the field, the are remarkable.

We should balance this things, but there are people who have less of the one. That should not decrese their confidence, but the opportunity to know their weaknesses and improved!

just do you best

nowadays, for some hospitals it doesn't matter what you know(w/c is reflected in your grades-board rating, tor, pre qualifying exams, panel interviews)but who you know from the inside (backer). :(
