Hi All--

I would like to inquire on how to go with the process of applying for a RN license in California.

I am a registered nurse in the Philippines and immigrated to the USA this year.

Thank You.

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

You apply to the BON for a license.

What degree you have? I have RN in one country, and RPN in another, and am LPN in america. It's complicated but best decisions I have ever made

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

California do their own assessment. You do not need CGFNS. Suggest reading the threads on here regarding issues with CA and meeting requirements

CA has become one of the hardiest and slowest route for most PH nurses and students if you graduated after 2005, so if you got your BSN prior to 2005, you will not have to face the concurrency issues that has declined thousands upon thousand of PH applicants since Nov. 2011.

Will you be getting your SSN or at least an ITIN status soon? That's going to be asked on the application or it will be rejected with the non-refundable application fees.

Are you able to bring in some years of paid nursing experience so that you can look for a job quicker?

If you graduated after 2005, be prepared for a long application period especially if you fall into the situation below.

Upon review of your transcripts, there stands a very good chance that you may be deficient in at least two courses and if it's more than the two usual suspects: OB and MS, you'll most likely have to re-taken the entire nursing program (but not in the PH). That's because it's very hard to find a CA school that will allow you to complete the other 3 or more courses within the 3 year limitation of finalizing the application.
