Hi.
This post is for internationally educated nurses who migrated to Canada, specifically in Ontario, and who are experiencing problems getting hired as an RPN even though they have already registered with CNO.
I am an RN in the Philippines who successfully completed the registration as an RPN in Ontario and already registered with CNO. After getting registered I immediately applied to a lot of nursing homes in my area specifically in Mississauga but unfortunately no one will want to hire someone like me, an immigrant with no Canadian nursing experience. Could anyone on this forum give any advice or direction to this problem. Anyone here knows where I can gain Canadian experience? Thank you.

It's not just you. Read the Cdn. forums. There are very few jobs in the GTA and far more nurses applying for them.
There really is no answer to your question that you want to hear. The market there is oversaturated.

Why have you only tried nursing homes?
Fiona is right. it's not just IENs having trouble finding work.

Have you tried going to any nursing job fairs? I know that Toronto holds quite a few every year. And did you take any bridging courses? Maybe your classmates have had better luck and am able to refer you? You definitely need to apply outside of Mississauga, and more than just nursing homes. It may take a while though, unfortunately.
I did not take any bridging course cause after the CNO told me I'm qualified to take the RPN exam I immediately took it. Tried applying to hospitals too outside Mississauga.

Try going to nursing agencies, get some Canadian nursing experience in either hospital or LTC. Do some volunteering in LTC. It shouldn't be an issue for Philipino nurses to be hired as there are always somebody from Philippines working inside. Hope it helps.
