Just saying hi and making it official. So very excited to be part of the club! Got my first nursing job in L&D. I am excited (and nervous), but mostly excited. Glad to join you folks here. (I've been posting here and there on this subforum for a little while, but now am officially an OB nurse!)

Yay!! Congratulations!!

if I may ask what was your teas score.

Congrats! I'm interested in this field as well. Would you mind talking about your credentials and experience and the job market in your area? It's my understanding that ending up in L&D for a first job is very fortunate. Thanks

Congrats! OB is awesome ;)

My TEAS score was not as high as I'd liked because I was kind of rushed to take it, but it wasn't a bad score either. I believe it was 83.

I have a BSN, but don't have any special credentials. My hospital hires new grads into L&D though. I think that varies by region of the country. None of my classmates have had any problem getting jobs. One got hired straight into NICU too.

Hi everyone-

I'm a spanking new grad (RN-BSN) with no acute care experience who just got her dream job in Labor and Delivery. YAY!!! I got my RN in January 2014 and started right away with the BSN and just finished 2 weeks ago. I'm SOOOO nervous because I haven't had acute care clinicals in over a year and my orientation starts on June 22nd. During my BSN I had a full time job as a Case Manager for Home Care in NYC. This last semester I carried 15 credits just so that I would graduate in May. Such a full schedule didn't really allow for lab practice time. Now I'm scared out of my mind that I've lost all my fundamental skills. :banghead:

Any advice on how to approach the situation? I'm relocating to DC for this new job and I've been stressed with the move as well.

ShelbyaStar, I went into nursing knowing fully well that L&D was my ONLY interest. I started looking for positions even before I got into the program. Therefore, I knew that I would have to work really hard to get in there without med-surg experience. What I did was make sure I had a BSN as soon as possible and I searched for jobs nationally. I live in NYC and I looked as far as Alaska. I finally got a call back from DC in April and will be starting as a New Grad RN in DC in 2 weeks. It's possible to get in, but you must be open to relocate.
