Hello,
I am trying to apply for CRNBC registration and I wonder if I may be eligible since my nursing education is different from that in BC. I started my nursing education in highschool for 4 yrs , than I had to graduate another 3 year school of nursing. Do you think that I may be asked to take SEC assesment due to my highschool education? Is there anybody who encountered this situation? Of course I will send the application whatever will be the situation, but I just wanted to know how the things go for me in this situation:icon_roll. Thank you.

I have moved your thread to the International Forum since it is specific to licensure/immigration for the foreign trained nurse. Many of the local nurses in Canada are not aware of the requirements, so we ask that all questions concerning these topics be placed un the International Forum.

It will be much easier if you just state the country that you trained in, impossible to tell anything with just what you have mentioned. Most of us are aware of the different training programs and it will be easier for you to get the answer that you are looking for.
Also, do you have an immigrant visa for Canada or would have to be petitioned by an employer?
Thank you for the fast reply; I was trained in Romania, and have 15 years experience as OR (only). I passed ILETS and NCLEX and now waiting for the immigration like so many other nurses. It's been 1,5 years since I applyed for immigration and I know it may take few years till I will be able to work there if everything goes well; I was thinking that in the meantime I may asses my nursing education in Canada...and asking to your question , no I have no immigrant visa and I am not yet petitioned by any employer. Do I need an employer first ? I thought it's the other way around- first I need to be eligible for CRNE , then find an employer... anyway, any advise is very welcome. Thanks again.
Canada is slowly changing over to the BSN as initial requirement for the RN license there. BC is one of the last hold-outs. As long as you had the training after high school, you should be okay for Canada since you were given the okay for the US.
It is best to have permission to at least sit for the CRNE before looking for an employer, but we have seen some of everything pass by here. It is always in your favor to have that and best of luck to you.

Hi susanne,
I have noticed that you know a lot about Canadian Licencing and employment.
I have an ADN from the US + 1 year of CICU in FL, I applied for the CRNE in Canada. On the phone they told me that BC stll accepts ADNs, but each case is different. I will have my answer from CRNBC in 4 weeks. I would appreciate if you could answer two questions:
1) What are the chances to be allowed to sit for the CRNE?
2) If I am approved to sit for the CRNE what is the job outlook in the Vancouver and Victoria area?
Thank you in advance for your kind reply.

Just look at the CRNBC website and all information is there on what is required to meet their requirements as a International trained nurse.
IELTS is part of that requirement and will be required before you will get eligibility to sit CRNE. You do not have to have family already living in Canada
