I'm tired, lonely, depressed, and frustrated.

It's midnight on Friday. I may be finished by 9 AM in time for class at 10. I don't know what to do. I never see my family. I just sit at this stupid desk and read and type all of the time, and I have a year and a half of this left. What am I doing at 38 blasted years old?

Lol, I felt the same way a year ago. I wanted the torture to end. You will feel better, it gets easier. Hang in there and continue to keep your eyes on the prize.

Specializes in none yet, but I'm VERY excited!.

Thank you. I think I'll sleep a little now. It's been 36 hours.

GET SOME SLEEP!!! Our instructors tell us all the time that if you aren't getting enough sleep that extra hour of sleep will be far more useful and beneficial then that extra hour of studying! When you are sleep deprived you don't think clearly. Take a break, go out to eat with some friends or something.

I hope things get better for you.

This is an actual scenario and dialog from my nursing school days:

I arrive home from school, having repeated my mantra for the 70 mile, over-mountain-roads drive.

Husband: I have some bad news.

Me:

Him: The bedroom had a fire.

Me:

Him: It was only in the bedroom. Look like the phone charger started it.

Me: Did the guest room burn down?

Him: No.

Me: I'm going to sleep.

As a fellow nursing student, I feel your pain! However, I will repeat what everyone else here has been saying - HANG IT THERE! It will pay off. When you feel like giving up, take a break from studying, go to a movie, dinner w/ family or friends. Do something. Anything aside from nursing. It will help you clear your head and come back more focused. I have one year left myself and all my instructors tell me the 2nd year is a little easier.

You'll be in my thoughts, friend!

HAHA this totally sounds like me during the week and even on weekends.

My insomnia has been cured by nursing school. I have made it a point to sleep and get at least 7-8 hours of sleep. Everyone talked about how important sleep is and so instead of staying up until 2-3 studying I SLEEP. Guess what, I do pretty good grade wise and I study about 3 hours a week, but I don't feel so sleep deprived so I absorb what we are learning in lectures really well and dont need to come home and pound it into my head for another 4-5 hours. I go out to lunch weekly or every other week with friends from nursing school. I catch up on some movies or tv shows.

Past semesters in my pre reqs I stayed up until 2-3 in the morning I would study late at night and I would get very little sleep and guess what, I did poorly in my classes, I passed but I could have done so much better. I can now honestly say I think it was from lack of sleep and because of that I couldn't stay focused and I absorbed little.

Sleep is important. As Nurses and Nursing students we should know this!

I gave myself permission this semester to relax and not be obsessed with studying. I always get A's and you know what? It just isn't worth it. The last two semesters I studied way too much. I missed my kids concerts and trips to amusement parks. This semester, I have cut way back. I am enjoying my kids and have not missed a sports event that my kids are involved with. I still study, of course, but not to obsession. Guess what? My grades have not slipped at all and even if they do, it is ok. Nothing wrong with B's. Colleen

I laughed when I first read this....because it seems like you may have quoted me almost word for word 1 1/2 years ago......hang in there there is light at the end of the tunnel. I actually wondered if nursing school would put me in bed for so long when I was done, that I wouldn't even be able to study for the NCLEX. It doesn't.:nurse:
