Well, what about if you have 6 1/2 YRS of experience all in ltc/rehab? I'm thinking of taking the chance of moving to socal with a relative who lived there in the recent past who isn't in the medical field.

I just got a job in Newport at Hoag in the Emergency room with 1 year experience as an RN.. Dont know if that tells ya anything...

im currently in the process of figuring out how I am going to move all my stuff from Michigan hahah

OK. I've never heard of it as I'm not from there; I'm originally from OHIO! My husband is born and raised in Detroit city limits.

There are many experienced LVNs (10 years and over) who can't find jobs in Southern California. Additionally, many foreign nurses who are being told their RN education is not to the standards of the CA BON to determine their eligibility to take the NCLEX since they started enforcing their concurrency rules are being advised to become LVNs to get their foot in the door.

Not saying you won't get a job because nobody can predict that, just that it is very saturated right now, even if you have 6 years of experience.

Don't make the mistake of my Michigan friends who moved out here and bought a convertible and rented an apartment by the beach to live a California dream and then struggled to pay for it.

Newport Beach is a pretty swanky area. But there are some suburbs around in which you can live reasonably but the beach areas will make you feel poor pretty past. Hoag is a nice facility though with a good reputation but you'll here the phrase "are you good enough for the Hoag?" probably one too many times.

Is that what is happening? I've been coming across a couple of cases like above late and they have been driving me crazy because they want to let you know they are an RN back home and I couldn't really care. I just want to give report and go home.

Haha yeah I been lookin at areas by the beach actually, but with Roomates from criagslist. I could easily afford it, I'm just not so sure I want to live with 3 people in a house . Granted its a big beach house ...So what's the "are you good enough for hoag". Please explain :). Or any other info on the hospital you may have ... Have or do you work there ?

Any good skilled rehabs/ltc facilities? I'm mean REALLY GOOD. I'm really over working in facilities in terrible neighborhoods. It has been my experience that when you work in terrible neighborhoods/areas, the staff/work environment tends to be the same; including upper mgmt. They treat the staff terrible, pay them even worse, offer EXPENSIVE health benefits, and fire you on the drop of a dime because more so they don't "like" you versus poor nursing skill/work.

Yep. There are multiple threads in the International Forum about exactly that situation. Some of them are really insulting toward LVNs, too. One guy wanted to sue the state of California over it. A search in allnurses for "ca bon" gets lots of results.

Oh boy. The one gal I actually like who was a RN in Russia was telling me she's been trying to get into the classes she need to take the NCLEX-RN like Peds, L&D, and Mental Health but if that's what your missing doesn't that mean your not NCLEX-PN eligible either since thats a part of the LVN curriculum as well?

Anyways I have a few coworkers that have 20+ years of experience but right not their options are about the same as mine $ and advancement wise.

From what I understand the issue is "concurrency" with their theory and clinical cases for OB and perhaps other rotations as well. All of the questions are from people from the Phillipines, so I'm not sure about Russia, but I work with 2 from Russia who said they were RNs in their home countries as well. I'm not sure why they can't be RNs here.
