I'm not sure I'm cut out for this

I'm not sure i can handle floor nursing its causing me a lot of stress im not sure i can do everything for my patients in the shift. i have a bsn; can someone tell me other things i can do with it and how many years of floor experience I need to do before shifting to that. also if anyone has any idea for a good masters degree that would get me out of floor nursing please let me know.

Before you spend lots of money on the MSN, remember that there are tons of experienced nurses with their MSN that will be going for the same jobs as you. I'm not trying to be ugly, just don't expect the MSN to be an automatic ticket off the floor. Research the job market where you are or where you are willing to go.

Try to stick out the floor for at least a year (I don't know how much experience you have) and then look at something with more control over the patient flow, like clinic or outpatient. These jobs don't usually pay as much as inpatient though. It's OK not to like inpatient nursing, but it's not wise to spend money to get out of it when you are unlikely to land a job that pays more.

You are right to have your concerns because nursing is not for everyone, and nor should it be. I know it isn't for me however I am doing the work until I don't have to anymore. I do like caring for my patients but there are other ways to care for patients. Figure out if it is for you and move on. It isn't the end of the world if it isn't.

Have you tried other specialties? Nursing is definitely hard on our minds, bodies, and souls. Often times when I am going over my day in my head I go over things I wish I had done with and for a patient. But the sad truth is nursing is a HEAVY load and it isn't getting any lighter. Between documentation, orders, carrying out tasks...all the logistical things involved in being a nurse...that caring bedside manner gets pushed to the side sometimes. The best thing you can do is make the most of every interaction and moment. My sister, who is also a nurse, told me one day nursing is a 24 hour job and you only get 12 of them. Do the most and best you can for your patient. Perhaps med-surg nursing isn't for you. Have you considered changing into a specialty? Or maybe working in a MD's office? The sad truth is unless you are just lucky Docs aren't too pleasant. Seriously I would say they are not pleasant way more than they are. I have also felt the anxiety of working with docs that are rude and just stare at me like I am stupid OR make my job harder because they won't do right and input orders and so on. I am still growing my back bone and confidence to stand up to them. But, at the end of the day I value myself and know that if no other way I am a person and deserve respect. Good luck and hang in there.

I work I'm the operating room and i love it

You only have 1 patient at a time!

THIS...is exactly why I loved the OR!
