I'm really angry!!! And i just need to vent!!!!

I really just want to vent, express my feelings, and my opinion on an issue that I know NEW GRADS (RN'S) all over the United States are experiencing, like I said I need to vent, so pardon meet if anyone feel offended about what I am about to say, not that I got that out of the way here we go.

I chose nursing as a career because I REALLY enjoy helping people, this is my third medical profession might I add, from Radiology Technologist, Surgical Technologist, and now Register Nurse. I gave up EVERYTHING!!!! for nursing school my credit, my brande new luxury car, my older son, sleepless nights, crying days and nights, and my sanity all because I wanted this Nursing thing soooooo BAD!!!

NOW I CAN'T FIND A JOB!!!!! I have tried in state, out of state, even volunteer and still nothing!!!!!!

!!! Yes, I gave it all up to be a yes doctor, no doctor, yes patient, no patient, dealing with miserable nurses, miserable families, basicly eating dog mess and having shoved in my face, and now I can't find a JOB!!!!

PLEASE DO NOT MENTION that I'm giving out the wrong attitude or my perspective is all wrong, or maybe this is not the profession for me, like I said I need to vent so any positive talk or good outlook I had about nursing has just went the window!!!!! I wanted this so BAD I don't know what more I would have done to become a nurse, and now that I am, I'm just so disappointed. I feel like a child who couldn't wait for Christmas Day and once the day arrived, I became disappointed, because Santa didn't give what I expected!!!!!

Yes, I have tried looking for a JOB in my previous professions, but because I have not worked for two in a half years in those professions the gap is causing a problem. Yes, I have thought about making myself marketable, but how can I when I haven't worked in two in a half years, I can't afford it, ACLS is almost two hundred dollars, CCRN is a thousand and change!!!! I'm TIRED, ******, FRUSTRATED, the whole nine yards!!!!

What makes matters worst is they are quiet a few nurses out there who don't even like or want to do nursing, they are unhappy, miserable, working two and three jobs, and this is who the agencies, hospitals, and hospice want to deliver patient care, no wonder why so many mistakes happens in the nursing field and documentation sucks!!!!

Now that I got that off my chest, and mind, I guess I can go back to surfing the net again for a JOB!!!!!

Ok here is a silly question what is an LVN?

Specializes in Psychiatric.

Oh yes, and really consider going on for your BSN. It not only makes you more employable in the long run, but additionally it gives you an explanation for your lapse in employment and heeds off the payment of your loans. All you need is 6 credits per semester to keep your loan from going into repayment.

Sorry for the confusion; in Texas and I believe California we are called LVN; other states its called LPN.

You know, the problem with going on for your BSN is that it will cost almost the same as getting a master's--at least in my area (NY). I have a bachelor's degree in another field and my ADN--and master's program advisors have already told me they'd take me today, but I can't do it without an employer! If you don't want your master's, though, then by all means, try to keep fresh by getting your BSN (if you can afford it) or doing lots of continuing ed.

:idea:For all New grads and nurses looking for a job....Come to houston, tx....if you need a job apply as a school nurse www.kipphouston.org...we are looking for nurses at our school district! They pay well

I graduated in May 09 and it took 4 months to find a job. Go out in person to every nursing home in your area. That was the only job I could find. They usually hire a new grad before a hospital. While employed keep looking at the hospitals. It took me 4 months to find a hospital job while employed at the nursing home. After you apply on line show up in person at hospitals. I had many no's before I had an interview. I also had some awful interviews where I thought I would die before it was finished with mean cranky managers. Good luck to you.

I'm having the same problem in Houston. So many nurses are moving here from other states since Texas has jobs that the hospitals are hiring experienced nurses over new grads. Lots are becoming magnets which only take BSN's which I intend to get but I have to have a job for the school I want to attend. Over half my class that graduated in Dec 09 are not working yet.

I heard New Mexico has a nursing shortage...........

Shivone-so good to hear from someone in the same area...I am in Quakertown just around the corner...I have applied multiple times to reading and did speak with someone in HR who gives me the same story...I don't have a years rn experience & dont have hospital experience...if only they could see what I do at my job...I have worked for bayada doing private duty cases, but I just can't handle having only one patient...boredom sets in quickly cause there is only so much you can do for one child no matter how complicated the case...Reading is a hike for me also but I need the experience and want to get into a critical care area because I eventually want to get to nurse anesthetist school...and I am not getting any younger...hitting 41 this week...I would love to move out of state, but my husband has his own business and my 14 yo girl would not be happy...ps I have also applied at Good Shephard no luck there either...been trying to find intern programs but not many out there...one at albert eistein but have to have BSN which I won't finish till October...would love any other suggestions..

LOL welcome to the world of nursing. In my day they would only hire experienced nurses. How could one get experience if you couldn't get a job. Hang in there my friend you will get work. Keep trying and don't give up. Um just to let you know the venting may not stop once you find work.

Ah~these stories are hard to hear, since the nursing shortage has not yet been remedied. Recent data: http://content.healthaffairs.org/cgi/content/abstract/hlthaff.28.4.w657 tells us that the recession has helped soften the shortage (in 2007-2008 more than a quarter million RN's entered the hospital workforce), but experts predict this improvement is temporary, and say that by 2025 the US alone will need approximately 260,000 additional RNs. So we need all you new grads to get your feet in the door...keep looking and don't give up!

Yes you are right TX seems to want to hire new Grads REALLY BAD but they wont respond if You dont after a TX lic, trust me I have been applying there. I refuse to apply for lic in a state if I am not assured a job because it cost $$$ for endorsement money I dont have at this time.
