Guys, I'm new to this site....
So here is my story, I'm 24 years old. I'm attending a 4 year college and I'm in my Junior year. I'm completing my pre-reqs so that I can get into the program at my school.
Here's the thing...
I have come very far, yes I know, but I can't help but get mad at myself! I should have been a nurse 2 years ago, but when I graduated from H.S...I took a year off, got lazy, and when I decided to go to Community school I didn't take it serious enough.
Now that I'm older and watch the people of my H.S. class already integrated in their field of choice I just can't help but feel discouraged, All I can think about is that I'll be so old by the time I have my FIRST bachelors degree ... Sometimes I cry to sleep thinking I'll never get there. I dont want to give up, and I know I should move forward and not dwell on the past and let go of the "what if's"... I'm just venting ... I know what I want, and I want to become a nurse. I just hope I can make it there.
I understand what you're saying. I have gotten down on myself before for 'failure' or not being the best I can be. We all make mistakes, we all have hangups. They make us stronger. Those girls (and guys) that got their degrees, jobs, or nursing licenses at 22 years old, they made other mistakes in life, or they will. Don't compare yourself to others, we all know that, but sometimes we need reminding!
Stop dwelling about the past, it's getting in the way of your present. You need to be awesome in the present, to make your future awesome. You can be a nurse, you can be anything you want, but if you want it, then you need to make your attitude match that! Best of luck to you!
Hi! I'm 29 and still finishing my nursing pre-reqs. I've worked since I was 14, the last 7 have been in a family planning clinic. I feel exactly how you feel, but I also have to (on a daily basis) remind myself that I have work experience! I have life experience! I didn't spend time and money and resources earning a degree I'm not going to use! Give yourself some credit and remember that the older you are, the more worldy you are and the more employers (and instructors) will value your presence. There are benefits to being a little "seasoned!" I'm going to try and post a video I found on YouTube. If it gets removed, look up "Words from the Wise: The "Older" Nursing Student"

I will be 27 this July and I just applied to the Nursing program this past December. You're not too old.
