I'm not getting in :(

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I called the school today and they said that letters have been sent out for Fall 2012 and according to my date of completion, I'm not getting in. The lady said that they only made it up to the date of completion of may 2011 and my date of completion is dec. 2011. Even though I figured that I wouldn't get in, I was still hopeful. Oh well, I guess I'll be waiting yet again. :crying2:

Today I found out that the school I have been attending for pre-reqs has changed their program. This will mean an additional 2 semesters of classes before I can even apply. It does not matter that I already have a four year B.S. degree! This has become such a long road and I can not see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have rearranged my life to fulfill this passion that I have put aside for years. The frustration that I feel is overwhelming and I feel like a victim of administrative motions. I do not need ecouragement! I need a plan that will follow through with integrity.

If you already have a Bachelor degrees in another field look into an Accelerated BSN program. I'm not sure if they have them in your state but I know several states that do have these types of programs. You can go from a Bachelor degree in any field to a BSN in 12 months. I'll be honest I'm not a fan of these programs, you don't get near the education you should, but if I were in your shoes I would consider doing it, you can continue your education on your own once you're a registered nurse.

Yeah, here in NJ the wait time for Associate's programs are INSANELY long, as I'm sure is the case in a few areas around the country. The one at my CC makes you apply 18 months in advance, and that doesn't even guarantee you a spot for that class. It's pretty ridiculous. I wouldn't say that you're ignorant. :-)

We have 3-5 year waitlists here for our ADN programs - and the only admit once a year. It's crazy!

Hi everyone, after having to time to process that I didn't get in this time around, I feel okay about it. I know some of you are confused about what a date of completion is, so I will tell you. Here in NJ at the CC that I attened, you have to take and pass all pre-reqs, pass a criminal background check, submit proof of residency, and pass the teas test. Once you have completed all these steps, you receive your date of completion. For example, if you finish in the fall semester of this year, your date would be fall 2012. Each semester, my school admits 90 new nursing students according to their date. Nothing else has to do with getting in (grades, teas test score). So they mad it up to Spring 2011 date of completion and my date is the following semester so hopefully I get in next time, but there still might be a chance that I wont. I'll just have to wait and see.

That is CRAZY! I can't imagine having to wait that long to get into a program! I do remember seeing on another thread that you were recently accepted into another program, so congratulations!!! :)

Dont feel bad, I am a LVN trying to bridge over for two years with a bachelors in criminal justice. Really just want to get in and finish to work in surgery.

Could you possibly check another State to see what their schools have to offer? Some place closeby... Just a thought. I have heard of other students on this site who did that.

Thanks!!! My mother in law is a RN with an ADN and she pushed and pushed and pushed for me to just get on the waitlist and "save your family all that money" on the BSN. But my goal is to actually become a CNM, so I would still need my BSN. I can't imagine waiting all that time, either. Not when I've already been in school for soooooo long. Anyway, thanks again! :-D

That's a good idea. Jennifer, have you thought about checking out different counties in NJ, too? I know it's hard, though, because every school has different requirements. I'm glad that you're feeling better about the wait. I think you have a very good shot at making the cut for the next class! :)

I want to work in surgery also :specs:.

Well just an update, I just applied to a 4 year University yesterday for the Fall 2012 semester!!!! I'm really excited, the lady that I spoke to in the nursing department told me that there is still openings and with my gpa I should have no problem getting in. The only thing is that it is a four year program (BSN) so regardless of the fact that I have taken all my pre-reqs towards my ADN and practically almost all towards the BSN I still have to go for the 4 years. But, I don't have to retake the pre-reqs, they suggest that I minor in something that would complement nursing. If I stay at the CC that I'm at now I won't graduate for at least 3 years given that I get in for Spring 2013 and I will only have my associates, so why not go the extra year and have my BSN?! Now I have to just wait to see if I get in!!!!

Jennifer, that sounds fantastic!!!! Congratulations! Keeping my fingers crossed for your acceptance!!! When will you know?
