I'm done!!

:lol2:

i finally finished my preceptorship and am finally done with nursing school. never thought i'd get through it at times, it's been a rough long road. my preceptorship was at a hospital that was the farthest hospital in the valley from my home, but it was great, the nurses there were fantastic!! i ended up staying at my parents house for the preceptorship and now i'm playing catch up at home!! i've had a couple of job offers and have decided that chandler regional is the best fit for me right now. i was offered a position on nights as a staff nurse in l&d and i feel very fortunate to have an offer in the field i want to work in. i'm planning on taking an nclex study class in about a week and then hopefully the nclex by the end of december (provided my school gets my paperwork over there in time). i still feel like i'm caught in a whirlwind trying to get all of this done, and during christmastime, but hopefully after the new year things will settle down and i can finally add rn after my name.

i 'discovered' this board while doing my pre-req's and it feels sort of weird to be finally done and to not have to worry about school anymore. for those of you that are beginning your journey through pre-req's and nursing school, just hang in there. at times it may seem unobtainable, but if you just keep at it you'll look back and realize that it really did pass quickly.

take care everybody, and

congratulations graduates!!!

Specializes in Pediatric ICU.

You bet we (Keli and I) will keep you posted as to our progress.....we love this message board!

Pinning ceremony for PC is 12/12/07. I'm still in sort of a shock state - it hasn't really sunk in that I'm really, truly done. Maybe it'll hit me when the ceremony takes place.

Thanks you guys for all the good wishes. It means a lot to me. :1luvu:

congratulations you two!:balloons::balloons: i finished preceptorship on wednesday. preceptorship was awesome and very eye-opening as well lol! it was pretty different from clinicals and externing, especially when i was getting paged every 5 minutes! pinning is thursday night, but it still hasn't sunk in that school is finally over. although most people who i run into comment on how relaxed i look lately lol! i have a job on the floor i've been working on, adult oncology/ms. it's a pretty busy floor so i'm hoping to get a lot of experience.

deanna---you decided to work in peds? good for you! i absolutely loved my peds rotation and am still keeping the idea of working peds in the back of my mind. phoenix children's is a great hospital witha great orientation program. i just wish that it were closer to home!

keli---when do you start orientation? my friend accepted a job in tele and i think that her orientation is jan 14th. i don't know when mine is yet. my manager has 4 new grads coming in so she may just be "phasing us through" orientation......

you know what's great about finishing early? i'm actually getting to watch the christmas shows on tv this year! plus we even put up lights and sent out xmas cards lol!

to those of you who are waiting to get in...it will happen and you will be in the thick of things before you know it. ns was such a busy, time consuming experience but i would do it all over again in a heartbeat. it was such a great learning experience. try to do thebest you can in your prereqs because you will have to draw on that info throughout the program. also utlize nclex review books, outside study books (i liked the nursing made incredibly easy series), nursing journals, and websites such as this one. there is so much information out there to help you through....

Specializes in NICU.

I'm so excited for you all!!!!

I remember so well what it was like to get out of school and have this sense of relief ..... and have this time on your hands where you could actually do stuff (like watch those Christmas shows!). It's one of those once in a lifetime experiences ...... ENJOY it, each of you! :)

Mary-

I wish I had that sense of relief and relaxation right now!! I actually started orientation last week, the day after my preceptorship ended, so I worked 8 days straight, had one day off and then two days this week so far at my new job. It's sort of weird taking a step back after being in my preceptorship. I could pass meds and do just about everything during my preceptorship, but now as an extern 2 I'm having to wait until I've passed boards. Other than that it's fantastic finally working as a nurse and feeling as if I belong somewhere!! The nurses I'm working with are fantastic and I have a great preceptor who really enjoyes teaching. I think I'm going to like it at Chandler. I'm sure I'll probably run into you at one of our orientation classes or something!!

My pinning ceremony is on Friday and we have school wrap up and pictures tomorrow. It's a hectic week, I'm working full-time, plus finishing all this up, plus the pinning ceremony. Then my kids are wrapping up at school with cottage fair (open house) and xmas parties etc....

I'm looking forward to next week, I'm taking a class to study for the boards and plan on taking the NCLEX as soon AzBON authorizes it.

I'll let you know how it goes :lol2:

Take care everyone!!

Wow Keli! You have been busy! I'm glad that you like your new job...IKWYM about taking a step backwards...I was able to do so much during preceptorship and now I'm back to externing......I started the Kaplan Course already. I'm hoping to take boards right after I take the onsite class. Hopefully, I'll have my ATT by then.....

Maybe I'll see you in the cafeteria one of these days!

ttyl,
