I'm confused with Kaplan Q-Trainer

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi,

I have two questions about Kaplan Q-trainer:

1) Are the Q-trainer and Q-bank same thing?

2) I got a Q-trainer from a friend, but it is 2003 edition. Is it the same as the up-of-date edition? I'm wondering I could use it for my study or I have to purchase a new one.

Anybody could give me any advice? Your kindly help will be highly appreciated!

Q-bank and q-trainer are different things. The trainer has set 7 tests, while the bank can be changed to focus on certain types of questions and you can get the rationals with each question. I have no idea if it has changed, but I would have thought that it would have as the nclex test has changed twice since that time. The q-bank is well worth the money.

Kaplan's question trainer is a set of 7 tests kaplan has developed to monitor your progress while you're studying for nclex. Each test varies in length (from I think 75 to 265) and convers various content areas of NCLEX--with the tests increasing in difficulty. Kaplan's goal for you is to maintain a 65% on each exam, which they believe offers you a good chance of being prepared and passing NCLEX. Each question trainer ends with a personalized review of types of questions you missed and which content area. I would start with taking question trainer 1, seeing if you pass, and if you don't, look at your itemized review and see which topic areas you need to review--if it's trach care, look in the course book for a review of procedure and nursing considerations. If you notice you are consistently low in one topic, you can use your q-bank to create tests to meet your needs. For instance, if I got a 53% in psychosocial integrity, I would then go to the q-bank and make an exam for myself with that topic.

HMMM..I'm guessing your q-bank is a book? Now kaplan offers q-bank and question trainer online access for 3 months, so I don't see how you could have access from 2003. I would not focus on using that book, as the exam's focus and difficulty may have changed. I would want to use the most recent materials.

Good Luck!

1) The Q-Bank and Question Trainers are part of Kaplan's online materials.

The Q-Bank is just a ton of practice questions. You can choose the topic and the amount and do as many or little as you want. You can also choose if you want to do them in tutor mode (not time and rationale given after each question) or timed mode.

The Question Trainers are 7 premade "practice tests". There are a set number of questions and the tests are timed. The first trainer has like 50 questions and the # increases with each trainer. The last one is 265 questions.

2)So...you were asking about a question trainer your friend gave you from 2003. I don't really know what this is b/c the question trainer is a set of 7 online tests. Did you friend maybe give you an old course book? Maybe they changed it since 2003 and the QBank and questions trainers used to be in a book instead of online. But they are both online resources that you need to register and pay for in order to access.

I hope this helps!

I have only had 1 post so far. I am new to all of this. I take m NCLEX-PN Oct 9th. I have been using Saunders 2nd Edition, Q-Bank and 2009 Kaplan Stategies. I hope it is enough. I try to answer 100 questions a day. Sometimes I am disorganized and don't know what to study. I can't do Suzanne's plan because I don't have enough time left. I can't wait to get the test over with becuase it hangs over my head every day.
